? We are proud to share that Gris Andrea Guzman, an Hermanitas alumna, College Success student, and scholarship recipient, has been selected to attend and present at the 50th Annual National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies (NACCS) Conference, taking place from April 2–5 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She will join a group of five Latina, first-generation undergraduate and post-graduate scholars in leading a roundtable discussion on the history of misogyny and the erasure of women’s contributions in Chicano and Latino grassroots movements. ? This prestigious opportunity will provide Gris and her peers with valuable networking experiences among scholars and professionals who share similar identities, challenges, values, and a passion for critical research. Gris first joined MANA de San Diego’s Hermanitas Program in 2019 as an 11th grader and is now preparing to graduate this spring with a Bachelor of Arts in Intensive Psychology and a minor in Theater Arts. ? Gris’s journey is a testament to the mission of MANA de San Diego. Our programs are not just one year of support, they are a lifelong commitment to empowering Latinas. We walk alongside our students from their early years through college, career, and beyond. Now, we hope our community can support Gris as she reaches this incredible milestone. Every contribution will help her seize this opportunity to represent our community on a national stage. ?? Support Gris and donate to her GoFundMe: https://lnkd.in/gSpkcZFX

    Psychology Student | Undergraduate Researcher

Hello Community, I am urgently reaching out for your support! Me and a group of 5 Latina, First-Generation, Undergraduate Scholars, & Post-Graduate Scholars, were chosen to attend and present at the 50th annual National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies (NACCS) Conference this upcoming April held from April 2nd-April 5th in Albuquerque New Mexico. Our presentation will be held on Friday April 4th, 2025 from 1:50PM-3:00PM and is a round table discussion surrounding the topic of Chicano/a & Latino/a grassroots movements history of misogyny and erasure of women’s contributions. Emphasizing the importance of applying advocacy theories into your personal life. And how intersectionality plays a role in creating critical spaces and not echochambers. NACCS is a conference encouraging research, which is critical and reaffirms the political actualization of Chicanas/os/xs. NACCs rejects mainstream research, which promotes an internationalist perspective that emphasizes consensus, assimilation, and legitimization of societal institutions, NACCS promotes research that directly confronts structures of inequality based on class, race, gender in U.S. society. NACCS will offer us incredible networking opportunities with individuals who share similar identities, struggles, values, morals, and passion for critical research. I am asking for your support in resharing our gofundme and considering donating. I originally intended to fund this conference through the student organization I am apart of at UCSC which is Hermanos De UCSC although the SOAR/SOMECA Office, Ethnic Resource Centers, Latin American and Latino Studies Department, College Governments, DEI office, and Dean Of Students Office have all been unsupportive and have not responded to our various inquires for funding. Largely, due to the budget deficit put upon the UC schools this past year. Our minimum need to attend the conference is $1.2K. We will be bringing our 5 presenters and 3 UCSC undergraduate students a total of 8 students. Our minimum budget will cover gas expenses driving from Santa Cruz to New Mexico, Hotel, & Conference Registration Fees. I would greatly appreciate your support, everyone attending is immensely passionate for organizing, critical research, & would heavily benefit from this incredible networking opportunity. For all 5 of us presenters it will be our first time presenting at a conference. And our second conference we have attended ever as we were at Chola Conference this past Fall Quarter and met with the Brown Berets and other incredible Latina Women with a passion for organizing who recommended we apply for NACCS because of our passionate contributions. Overall, I would greatly appreciate if you considered donating and resharing with anybody who has capacity to support! Thank you all immensely for your time! https://lnkd.in/g7pDAdp8

?? Through our Latina Upward Mobility Initiative (LUMI) program, we had the pleasure of welcoming Claudia Martinez and Adriana "Adri" Brunner, who shared their personal journeys and offered guidance to the mothers of our Hermanitas. Their insights on self-advocacy, embracing their Latinidad, and recognizing their power and resilience deeply resonated with everyone in the room, reminding us all of the strength within our community. A special thank you to the Alliance Healthcare Foundation for investing in this program and helping us empower families. We are honored to invest in our Hermanitas' parents and create a space that makes a lasting impact, ensuring they feel supported and equipped.?? #BelovedCommunity #Empowerment
