Mamava’s Marketing Maestro, Nicci Micco is who you call if you need a shot of enthusiasm in your life. Or if you want to talk nitty-gritty Google Analytics details. Or plan a flash mob ?? ?? . Nicci’s passion for health and wellness, particularly emotional wellness, drew her to Mamava almost seven years ago. “The postpartum period is hard, breastfeeding is hard, and I love that Mamava was born to make it easier,” Nicci explains. “I also loved the badass women who started the company!” Here Nicci shares more about her role at Mamava and her secret superpower. ?? What are your primary responsibilities at Mamava? I lead our powerhouse marketing team, driving everything from lead generation to brand strategy, product marketing, website management, content, communications,? partnerships—you name it. I also co-produce The Bodacious Optimist, a podcast hosted by our co-founder Sascha. It’s been a joy to bring bold, optimistic stories to life. ?? What’s your superpower? Dot-connecting! My brain loves patterns and relationships. I am so excited to make introductions between folks who should know one another ?? . This serves me well both in the networking and strategic parts of my job. Bonus? I love helping others uncover self-reflective insights that spark new passions or projects. ?? How has your past work experience helped you at Mamava? Before Mamava, I spent 15 years as a journalist specializing in health and wellness, backed by a Master’s Degree in nutrition. Then I shifted into content marketing, managing a startup-like division at a major publisher. Those roles taught me to blend data with creativity, a skill that’s invaluable in marketing. I also brought with me an awareness of how I like to build teams (by observing excellent managers and mentors along the way and also—perhaps surprisingly—through my experience in yoga teacher training). ?? What’s something you’ve just learned or learned how to do? I've expanded my pizza dough–making skills ?? . I've made my own for years but Alexandra Stafford's recipes and tips are leveling me up. “Pizza Night” is a great book! ?? What are three things you love to do?? Yoga (practicing and teaching), watching my sporty teenagers play soccer and baseball (they're actually quite artful!), exploring new places—near and far. ?? What's a surprising personal fact most people don't know about you? I don't have a middle name. (My mother-in-law’s maiden name is Ricco, so I had the potential to be Nicci Micco-Ricco. Did you know that the PUMP Act protects all breastfeeding employees in the workplace? Employers are required to provide reasonable break time to pump and a private (non-bathroom) lactation space. Here’s a quick breakdown of the federal law: ?? Who is covered by the PUMP Act? Passed at the end of 2022, the PUMP Act extended coverage to ~9 million more women of childbearing age and provided protection for all employees for one year following the birth of a child. ?? What kind of lactation space is required for pumping at work? Workplace lactation spaces cannot be a bathroom and must be free from intrusion and shielded from view (including security cameras). ?? How long are pump breaks? The PUMP Act provides “reasonable break time” rather than specifying a specific amount of time. Some breastfeeding employees need 15 minutes, but others may need 30 minutes or more.“Reasonable” break time makes accommodation for variations in biology. Fed up with pumping breast milk in bathrooms and borrowed spaces, Sascha Mayer and Christine Dodson applied their decades of expertise in design and brand strategy to solve a problem that was largely invisible: the lack of lactation spaces in workplaces and public spaces. Sascha and Christine took a human-centered design approach, starting with research, talking to breastfeeding people and employers, and creating prototypes of moveable lactation spaces that could be easily implemented in facilities. In 2013 they installed the first lactation pod in Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport, and Mamava was born. Today there are thousands of Mamava pods in all 50 states and over 10K lactation spaces listed in our free app so breastfeeding parents can find private spaces to pump or nurse on the go. In recognition of World Preemie Day (11/17), here’s a shout-out to the magic of breast milk. Every year in the United States one out of ten babies is born prematurely (before 37 weeks). Breast milk is the gold standard for all babes, but it’s especially important for preemies to boost their immunity and help them grow. But starting and sustaining breastfeeding is harder for parents of preemies. So kudos to organizations like Medela (whose hospital-grade pumps help make it all possible), Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) (that advocates for donor milk and accredits nonprofit milk banks), and March of Dimes at the University of Michigan (whose free app My NICU Baby helps parents with babies in the NICU track their feeding sessions, and Dr. Snehal Doshi MD for his expertise!?https://lnkd.in/eXY4JB85 #breastfeeding #WorldPreemieDay

Air travel has improved for breastfeeding parents in recent years thanks to federal legislation like the Friendly Airports for Mothers Act (and the Friendly Airports for Mothers Improvement Act) which require all airports to have a lactation space in every terminal ?? .
