MAM is a nonprofit organization based in Houston. Since 1983, we have been offering life-changing opportunities to thousands of under-resourced families. Our mission is to build stable families, a dynamic workforce, and vibrant communities… together! We believe in the potential of people. We believe everyone is whole and capable, with inherent value. The programs and services that we offer are focused not just on short-term relief, but on empowering our clients with the necessary tools to thrive in the long-term. As people take control of their lives and build critical resources, their confidence grows, and new opportunities for improved personal and community health and engagement emerge. ?   • Last night we celebrated 35 local entrepreneurs who are defying the odds. Despite limited resources and countless barriers, they are building businesses to help their families and community thrive. ?? At MAM, we are passionate about helping people go from “just getting by” to “getting ahead” so they can live healthy, stable, purpose-filled lives. It doesn’t happen over night, but it’s worth the investment. Each time a family develops long-term financial stability, it impacts the mental, physical, social and spiritual health of many, now and for generations to come. Every one of us has the power to positively impact someone else’s life. This Thanksgiving, don’t just read posts… find a way to use your knowledge, networks and resources to help someone today!!     ??? Last night was filled with joy as we celebrated the bilingual graduation ceremony for our two Fall 2024 Innova classes! We would like to thank Gregg T. Reyes of Reytec Construction Resources, Inc. for serving as our keynote speaker as well as Dra. Judimar Sosa Torres and Winchell McKinney for sharing their reflections as class speakers. Thank you to everyone who joined to celebrate or took part our entrepreneurs’ journeys! Innova - Community Business Academy is MAM’s newest program, dedicated to empowering underserved entrepreneurs and small businesses in local communities. In partnership with the nationally-recognized Rising Tide Capital, MAM is proud to provide a new opportunity for our neighbors to blaze their own trail. By supporting these small businesses, we create jobs and support economic development while reducing disparities. Through this work, we are investing in people who hope and dream about what is possible for their families and our neighborhoods. ?? Between our two Innova classes (one held in Spanish and other in English), 35 students dedicated themselves to developing essential business skills and growing their businesses in Innova over the last 12 weeks. We are incredibly proud of each one of them for reaching this milestone, and we can't wait to see them shine even brighter! MAM is so excited to continue accompanying you on this journey. ?   • Reflecting on the generational impacts of connecting young adults to strong career pathways. Especially proud of all the “firsts” MAM’s programs help create.

    In high school, Diana realized she wanted to pursue nursing and decided to explore her options through real-world experience. Through the Greater Houston Opportunity Youth Collaborative (GHOYC), Diana enrolled in a certified nursing assistant (CNA) course with Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM), which helped her boost her interview skills, connect with employers, and quickly land a job as a patient care associate. ?? Now that Diana has experience working in nearly every hospital unit, she plans to complete her nursing degree and specialize in eldercare. “I’m the first person in my family to work in the medical field,” she says. But that didn’t last long. With Diana’s encouragement, her sister was also certified through MAM. The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation are part of what made Diana’s story possible. They recently featured the story on their website highlighting the GHOYC. This initiative by the Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries, Inc. (ACAM) partners with healthcare employers to identify urgent staffing needs and connects young people not currently working or in school with the training to pursue high-demand healthcare roles. MAM is one of the community-focused organizations leading the charge with GHOYC. ????? Diana's story is a prime example of the successes that are possible when we see the potential in the community, and spark change for our neighbors by working together!     This week, we looked toward MAM’s future celebrating the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hamill Education & Workforce Training Center, a truly important milestone in MAM’s 40 years of service! This new addition to MAM’s Main Campus in Spring Branch will provide offices for us to increase individual client services by 80% and classrooms to enhance education and training programs by 50%. ????? In addition, renovations to our existing building will foster deeper community connections and generate additional revenue with the new Connections Café, a dedicated group volunteer space, and an expanded Resale Boutique. MAM is so grateful for the immense generosity of our supporters that have made this possible. Thank you for dreaming with us and making this project a reality! As we expand MAM’s Main Campus, we’re creating the opportunity to extend life-changing support to thousands more in our community each year. Together, we are helping build stable lives, break cycles of poverty, and create brighter, more hopeful futures. ????

    MAM Houston - Memorial Assistance Ministries broke ground on their campus expansion this morning! Over $18M of their $21M goal has been raised to date for the Hamill Education & Workforce Training Center, which will create classroom, resale and volunteer space needed to generate an additional $3M annually by 2029. This will also increase private client servies by 80% and training & edu programs by 50%. Proud to be a partner in this campaign, along with programming support (important to do both when you can!). Congrats Sonja Gee, Joanie Wentz and the MAM team and board!

    Woke up reflecting on the incredible journey of Simone Soro. A mother of two with dreams of starting and sustaining a business, Simone is now the proud owner of a company offering organic products, skincare, authentic African foods, and health supplements. Simone’s journey to entrepreneurship was fueled by support from the INNOVA Community Business Academy — a 12-week program by MAM Houston - Memorial Assistance Ministries that equips entrepreneurs to launch and grow their businesses. Earlier this month, I had the honor of meeting Simone, her supportive husband, and her two adorable kiddos at the MAM Ignite luncheon. Hearing her story, along with those of other INNOVA graduates like Hector, Axel, and Daja, was awe-inspiring. Sitting in the audience, and listening to their stories, I was reminded that when resilience meets opportunity, the possibilities are endless. On what motivates her, Simone said, “It’s because of my babies. They see me. They see everything.” Kudos to MAM Houston for empowering entrepreneurs like Simone.
