It may be cold outside but we've officially turned up the heat for 2025! Last Sunday, our Malmaison & Hotel du Vin Fire & Ice-themed Corkers Awards went off with a bang at Malmaison Liverpool ?? Champagne was popped, cocktails mixed, and an incredible feast was indulged in, and Instagrammed. It was a privilege to gather teams from across the country to honour and celebrate their outstanding achievements, with special accolades awarded to key team players from 2024. ? From musicians to dancers, we were thoroughly entertained, and in true Mal style, the celebrations continued into the early hours?? ? 2024 was an exceptional year for Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, thanks to our passionate team of people.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ken McCulloch. Ken was not only the visionary behind Malmaison, but also one of the founding pioneers of the boutique hotel sector in the UK. His legacy in the industry is second to none. The current team at Malmaison takes immense pride in being part of such a dynamic brand, and we have so much gratitude for Ken, for which we will be forever in his debt. As we reflect, we admire Ken’s bravery and unparalleled creativity in the early 90s when he developed a brand that dared to be different. The waves he made continue to inspire us today and will no doubt do so for decades to come. We send our deepest condolences to Ken‘s loved ones. We will raise our glasses to all that he achieved and will forever be thankful for his gift to us. Thank you?Ken, from your friends at Malmaison. Rest in peace.

The recent budget changes, especially the hike in employer National Insurance contributions, are adding significant financial strain on the UK hospitality sector, already struggling with rising operational costs and challenges. ? The hospitality sector is taking a big hit because it employs such a high number of minimum-wage and part-time workers and whilst we fully support the National Living Wage increases to ensure fair pay, these have amounted to over a 37% increase for 80% of our workforce from 2021-2025. The unprecedented threshold change in National Insurance contributions will also add around ￡1.5 million to our payroll next year. ? We've always been proud to pay higher than the National Living Wage because it shows our commitment to valuing and fairly compensating our workforce. However, these significant above-inflation increases aren't sustainable and threaten our ability to maintain the differential. ? We're standing with our industry partners, calling for a new approach that recognises the essential contributions of businesses and provides the flexibility needed to navigate these challenges.
