My favorite story of the week thus far! It's exciting to see two iconic Cleveland family businesses - Malley's Chocolates and Heinen's Grocery Store - partnering together. Having the great privilege of knowing both Kimberly Heinen and Mike Malley, I am well aware of how purposeful and thoughtful they are about their business decisions and how passionate they are about helping food businesses in our region grow. Two prime examples: Kim participated in COSE's recent "Taste Success" event and offered real life advice for those interested in getting their food-based products into stores providing both encouragement and caution for those trying to scale too quickly. And last year, Mike launched a cool new collaboration with Lena Wilson of Uncle Crunch LLC to offer new freeze-dried Malley's Candies to nurture and grow a young business with an ambitious owner. I am always so inspired to see how our small business community supports one another! https://lnkd.in/eP7dk_Nz #smallbusiness #supportsmallbiz #buylocal #GreaterCLE #AllIn
关于我们
Malley's Chocolates has been creating the best sweet treats in Northeast Ohio since 1935. Opened during the height of the Great Depression, Albert “Mike” Malley aspired to achieve his version of the American Dream: to own his own chocolate-making business. As a boy in Meadville, Pennsylvania, he had worked in a chocolate store learning to create hand-made chocolates using a simple copper pot over an open flame. As a young husband and father, he borrowed $500, rented a small store and living quarters at Lewis Dr. and Madison Ave. in Lakewood, Ohio, and moved his family into the back rooms. He then purchased the materials and supplies needed to become a professional chocolatier and ice cream concoctioner. His wife, Jo, saw to it that the bills were paid on time, and together, they realized their dream. Today, the Malley's Chocolates operates 18 retail stores across the region and a modern chocolate-making factory occupies our five-acre, 60,000 sq. ft. headquarters, where new chocolate ideas mix with long-time customer favorites.

We are excited to announce that a selection of Malley's every day and Easter confections is now available at Heinen's Grocery Store locations in Ohio! Not only is this partnership an opportunity to grow the Malley's brand with a partner focused on the Northeast Ohio community, but it is also an opportunity to further develop our wholesale offering.

You can’t have Candy in the Land without Malley’s! When we found out the theme of this year’s Playhouse Square Jump Back Ball fundraiser, Candy in the Land, we knew Malley’s had to get involved. We were incredibly proud to fill the role of presenting sponsor. And of course, we sent all 800 attendees home with a CLE bar and a coupon for later. The event was an evening of music, dancing, sweets and activities, all in the name of a worthy cause. Proceeds benefit Playhouse Square’s education programs including sensory-friendly programming, Disney musicals in schools, the Dazzle Awards and Classroom Connections Workshops.

At the Promise Holdings Executive Summit awards ceremony held on Tuesday, Feb. 4, Malley’s was recognized for Making a Difference in the Community. We want to thank each and every team member that participated in a volunteer event, stamped a summer reading card or donated to a local organization in partnership with Malley’s over the past year. A special shout out also goes out to our HR Director, Darrell Gawlik, for championing community involvement, heading up our Culture Committee and organizing volunteer events for our team to participate in and attend. We look forward to another year of giving back to the communities where we work and live!

Valentine’s Day at Malley’s is truly remarkable! On Feb. 13 and 14, our busiest days of the year, countless team members stepped up beyond their everyday roles. Whether it was directing traffic, running deliveries, jumping in to support other departments, or assisting customers on the sales floor, everyone was ready and happy to help. Because of that commitment, flexibility and teamwork, thousands of Northeast Ohioans enjoyed our confections on this extra sweet holiday. From our production facility to our retail stores (and everywhere in between) we are grateful for our team’s contributions.

At Malley’s, we are proud to partner with the Allison Rose Foundation, an organization dedicated to changing the lives of food allergy families. Michael Suhy lost his daughter Allison to a food allergy and turned the tragedy into a mission to educate others and create positive change. He founded the Allison Rose Foundation, which continues to expand, stocking Cleveland restaurants and schools with epi pens. As a retailer that manufactures and sells confections that include common allergens, we are committed to training our retail staff to address allergen emergencies and equipping each store with epi pens, with the help of the Allison Rose Foundation. Malley’s President and CEO, Mike Malley, will also serve as the keynote speaker at the organization’s annual fundraiser event taking place on Feb. 1.
