We are building a 20,000sf commercial space in the Historic G. Fox Building at 960 Main St. in Downtown Hartford. Great new partnership with University of Connecticut! Thank you Adrian Weidmann and UConn-Hartford students!
The iterative design process has started at the Makerspace for my ENGR1166 students! We’ve begun the first versions of our Martian habitats, the students are fully utilizing the lab space as intended. At this stage, we’re building with cardboard and balsa wood, but will work up to 3D printing and laser cutting within the next few weeks. We’re very grateful to be partnered with this organization - more updates to come in the lead up to the Spring Design Expo! We are applying for the #InfyMakers awards program! The Infosys Foundation USA supports today’s makers at schools and in communities, encouraging them to become our next generation of inventors. Our application focuses on support for our lead instructor Erik Johnson and the program "Make'N'Able 2". The Infy Award will be the catalyst to spark the next iteration of Make‘n’Able -- Make‘n’Able 2 -- a mission-driven approach to channeling the power of Design Thinking in service to the Greater Good. While Make‘n’Able remains focused on learning to replicate specific products to serve a need in the community, specifically, producing 3D-printed prosthetic limbs and mechanical hands - donated to amputees in need globally. Make‘n’Able 2 dives even deeper into the Design Thinking process, focused on teaching students how to creatively use additive manufacturing tools to solve real problems in their community. Students who previously showed creative potential and aptitude with the 3-D printing process during Make‘n’Able, swiftly grasping how the process can be dynamically used for much more than fabricating simple objects, will now more fully be able to align mission with process. The goal being to further cultivate the students' unbridled eagerness to help as many people as possible through the creation of Assistive Technology, and allow it to come into full bloom through Make‘n’Able 2.
