The Makers-in-Residency Program, part of the mAkE project, is breaking new ground by connecting makers from Africa and Europe. This program provided a unique opportunity for African and European makers to collaborate, exchange ideas, and work together on innovative prototypes that push the boundaries of technology. In 2024, four African makers traveled to four European cities to experience the vibrant makerspace culture firsthand. These makers gained access to state-of-the-art tools, expert knowledge, and resources that may be out of reach in their home countries. By fostering these valuable exchanges, the program strengthens open-source projects, promotes innovation, and creates lasting partnerships between continents. In this video, Leonard Shayo shares his experience at Fab Lab Barcelona, having access to cutting-edge technology and a collaborative environment that pushed his creativity and technical skills to new heights. ?? Last week, I attended the AfriLabs Annual Gathering in Cape Town, where I led the Makerspace Track and shared insights as a speaker on the vital role of makerspace networks in Africa's industrialization. This experience was truly enriching, connecting me with remarkable change-makers across the continent - hosting speakers from all over the world. Special Thanks to The RISA Fund and all partners and speakers for making the sessions insightful and quite and unforgettable one At ILM Consult , our vision is to build thriving tech and entrepreneurship ecosystems, foster collaboration and innovation, and provide a platform for investment in growth startups. Our commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and startups resonated deeply with this year's AAG. Here a few of my takeaways from #AAG24 especially my makespace track. 1. Makerspaces drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation - and we really have to promote our stories. 2. Collaborative makerspace networks share resources, expertise, and best practices 3. Policy support and frameworks enable makerspace growth 4. Africa's industrialization requires leveraging technology, talent, and resources. Let's continue to build ecosystems that foster innovation, collaboration, and investment. The AfriLabs community is a powerhouse for driving Africa's growth. Freda Yamorti G. Read the new version of the #makeafricaeu policy agenda by Freda Yamorti G. and Joseph Agyina ?? ?? https://lnkd.in/dBCKD6Uh #H2020
?? How Can We Support Maker Ecosystems to be Sustainable and Solve Local Problems? ?? On October 3rd, 2024, during the?Ghana Digital & Innovation Week, I was privileged to join a panel discussion alongside Joseph Agyina, Makerspace Community Building Champion, Yaw Adu-Gyamfi of the Ghana Hubs Network, Samuel Boadi-Duah from Africa Open Science and Hardware ( AfricaOSH), and Jeremy Acquah, Maker and Robotics Engineer. ?? The panel, titled?“Shaping the Future of Makerspaces: Recommendations for Policy Makers,”?explored how the implementation of?the mAkE Common Policy Agenda—co-created by?the Africa Makerspace Network - Official and the Fab City Foundation—can transform makerspaces across Africa. ?? The discussion also highlighted how maker communities, like the Suame Magazine in Kumasi, Ghana, can benefit from this policy to boost their productivity and position them as critical innovators capable of meeting community-specific needs. ... ?? The mAkE - African European Maker Innovation Ecosystem?project?has facilitated collaborations with a diverse range of stakeholders—makers, policymakers, international organizations, and foundations—to develop resources, capacity-building programs, and the infrastructure necessary to support makerspaces. Moreover, global dialogues facilitated by the project ensure that makers have a voice in shaping policies that impact their ecosystems. ... ?? I am excited that we will continue these conversations at the Makerspace Track sessions during the upcoming AfriLabs Gathering 2024 in Cape Town from 6th to 8th November, where we will explore opportunities in the Makerspace Ecosystem. ?? The mission is clear: to drive sustainability within maker ecosystems and to promote local production in Africa, Europe, and beyond. We invite you to support makerspaces globally; review the Common Policy Agenda and leave your feedback - https://lnkd.in/dzkbtAKH! #makerspaces #policy #sustainabledevelopment #innovation

The African European Maker Innovation Ecosystem, #mAkE, was featured in this year's Wind Empowerment Conference #WEGREECE2024. The aim of #mAkE, an EU Horizon project in promoting collaboration between Africa and European innovation hubs (Makerspaces/ Fablabs) has already been materialized as Mathew Lubari of #CC4D, and Charles Wangara from #FablabWinam, were invited to be in a conference to share knowledge and learn how to build wind turbines (renewable energy) to support communities such as the refugee camps and vulnerable rural communities with no electricity. Once again, the mAkE project output and impact were disseminated at the conference, creating more opportunities and sustainability to innovation hubs, makerspaces/ fablabs and makers across theglobe. #mAkE

Open science and hardware are key to fostering innovation and accelerating local solutions to Africa’s challenges. By making scientific knowledge, tools, and technologies more accessible and affordable, we empower researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs to collaborate and share resources. This reduces reliance on expensive proprietary systems, enabling the development of sustainable solutions in areas like health, education, energy, and agriculture. Here are some highlights from AfricaOSH summit day one featuring Samuel Boadu Duah (MBA, CIMA, CGMA ) Freda Yamorti G. Jeremy Acquaah Andrew Lamb Joseph Agyina Abdoul kafid TOKO and more.
