Here is a quick look at our new Mandako crimper, yet another piece of equipment Main Farms utilizes to be better stewards of the resources necessary to grow food to feed the world. This crimper, also known as a roller crimper, seamlessly crimps and flattens cover crops and prepares the soil for the next planting season without disturbing the soil structure with a tillage tool. In addition to preserving soil health, it also enhances moisture retention and reduces erosion.

Here is a convoy of Main Farms trucks waiting to get loaded up with corn recently during a beautiful fall day. The combine unloads corn into the grain cart because it's a more efficient use of time than loading it directly into the trucks. The trucks then line up and get loaded from the grain cart before making the trip to our grain bins. The Main Farms team is in the process of harvesting about 5,000 acres of corn.

In honor of Veterans Day, all of us at Main Farms would like to say thank you to all the veterans who have served our country. A special thanks to those veterans who are members of the Main Farms team: Connie Christie, Paul Walter, Dick Hansen, Ron Edwards, Larry Jensen, Lonnie Boyce and Joe Main. We appreciate you.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! The Main family handed out?LAYS?potato chips recently at the annual Trick or Treat on the Farm event at Hillhaven Farms in Edmore. There were a ton of things for the kids to do and see, including games, animals, firetrucks and tractors. Thanks to everyone who stopped by — including so many kids in great costumes — at our table. This is always a great event.

The Main Farms team is nearing the end of the soybean harvest. We grew 2,400 acres of soybeans, which are sold and shipped to Zeeland Farm Services, Inc. Zeeland Farm Services in Ithaca is Michigan's largest soybean processor and processes about 45 million bushels of soybeans each year.

Here is a quick video of one of our trucks being unloaded into one of our grain bins. The corn initially goes into a wet bin, where it will be dried down to 14 to 15 percent moisture. At that point, it will be moved into one of the bigger bins, where it will be stored until it's ready to ship. The Main Farms team just recently began harvesting the 5,000 acres of corn that we grew this year.

Sky blue and John Deere green are a great combination. Here is a shot of one of our new John Deere combines alongside a John Deere tractor pulling a Brent Equipment grain cart in a field right behind our farm in Six Lakes. We just got started with corn harvest last week, so it will be a minute before we complete harvest of all 5,000 acres we grew this year.
