???? Water utilities flush hydrants for a variety of reasons, all of which ensure the delivery of high-quality water to their customers. Here are the most common reasons:? ? To ensure hydrants are working properly: Flushing hydrants allows utilities to check for any issues such as low water pressure, flow restrictions, or operational problems that may hinder their effectiveness in case of emergencies. ? To remove sediment and mineral buildup: Flushing hydrants helps keep pipes clean of debris that can potentially cause color, taste, and odor issues. Flushing is essential for maintaining high water quality standards and ensuring firefighting readiness. The flushed water returns to the environment, rejoining the natural water cycle.

Did you know that water expands when it freezes? ?? This simple fact has a big impact on our underground water pipes! ?? When the ground freezes, moisture in the soil expands, creating extra stress on pipes. ?? The freeze-thaw cycles can cause the soil to shift and move, putting even more pressure on water mains. ?? These powerful forces can lead to leaks, requiring water to be shut off for repairs by our hardworking water distribution technicians.
