Earlier this week, we celebrated Women's Equality Day, a commemoration of the 19th amendment and women's right to vote. It's National Community Health Worker (CHW) Awareness Week! Today, our Executive Director, Elinor Higgins, joined CHWs and policymakers at the Maine State House for Maine's 2nd Annual CHW Awareness Event. Industries that are traditionally female-dominated, particularly in health care and education, are too often under-valued. The Maine CHW Initiative is doing great work to highlight the critical role CHWs play in the health system and to raise awareness about how CHWs contribute to healthier, more equitable communities in Maine. #NCHWAW #NCHWAW2024

Today is Moms Equal Pay Day - and across the country mothers are still paid much less than fathers, whether they work full-time year-round or not. According to a report from the Institute for Women's Policy Research, working moms in Maine made 67.4% what working fathers made from 2018-2022. This disparity has an impact across the lifespan.
