Maine's Permanent Commission on the Status of Women just released their biannual report. - a featured subject? Women in construction. "Currently, women represent only 15% of the construction workforce in Maine. Gender-based violence and harassment are still major barriers to women joining the construction industry – and staying there." This is quote does not surprise us. And it is not a circumstance we are willing to accept. We are working to change this every day. We need more companies taking genuine action. Our industry can't keep hiring from half the workforce. https://lnkd.in/eHADeJgi

November 18th-22nd was National Apprenticeship Week - a week dedicated to recognizing the incredible value apprenticeships bring to individuals, businesses, and communities. Anna & Erin spoke on a panel at the Augusta Civic Center in front of 250 people for the inaugural Maine Apprenticeship Summit. Governor Mills opened the conference, and shared Delaney's story in her speech about the importance of apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs for workforce development. Delaney is halfway through our entry-level Residential Carpenter- Passive House Builder apprenticeship and has found her way back into the trades with our program. News Channels 6 and 8 interviewed Erin, who shared her experience in our apprenticeship program and the impact it has had on her life.??Watch the news clip here Erin is enrolled in our Lead Carpenter - Passive House Builder apprenticeship. This is our first mid-level apprenticeship program and offers a standardized pathway for leadership development and skill building to manage crews, anticipate building needs and execute the construction of high performance Passive Houses. We are proud to be providing access to the trades with our apprenticeship programs, and excited to see the impact Registered Apprenticeship Programs can have on strengthening our workforce in Maine.

Thrilled to see our recent Phius Certified Passive House receive a HERs score of 18 - the best performing score in the country for a project without renewables installed (yet!) - Incredibly grateful to collaborate with Project Co+op & the owners, who took this build to the next level!
We're proud to announce that the Clay Brook Passive House designed and energy modeled by us and built by Maine Passive House is now the first Phius certified passive house in New Hampshire! On top of that it has achieved a HERS score of 18. That's the best performing HERS score in the country for a project without solar panels. And, the owners are planning to install solar next year making this an incredibly energy efficient home. We'll post more in the future regarding its innovative DC electrical system and smart electrical panel. The homeowner is actively going above and beyond to push the boundaries of what is possible for residential energy efficiency.

Looking for a job that is creating innovative solutions to improve the built environment? - Check out this opportunity!
phME [passivhausMAINE] has reposted a slightly altered job description just posted yesterday- tell your friends and family. retrofitMAINE is thrilled to have been selected to work with the BuildingsUP team. It’s hard to overstate the amount of support being offered to the organizations who have won the BuildingsUP Prize. The DOE has committed to supporting small organisations make huge contributions to the scaling of low-income retrofits. An ideal applicant would have strong roots in community outreach as well as academic and professional partnerships in the building science world. Alternately, an applicant with a background in low income financial assistance, local, state and federal programs, combined with Building Science or Community outreach would also be a strong candidate. A clear vision of the complexity of retrofits on a technical and social level is imperative. #retrofits #buildingsUP #retrofitMAINE #climate #resiliance #mitigation #justtransition #housingequity
