🌟 How can transit-oriented development embrace local history while creating vibrant, livable public space? Located in Montgomery County, MD, next to the future Purple Line Station, Chevy Chase Lake Block B reimagines a 9.5-acre site once home to the historic Chevy Chase Lake Amusement Park—a trolley-accessible destination that shaped the area’s legacy. Designed by Mahan Rykiel Associates, Inc. the landscape celebrates this layered history through craftsmanship, flexibility, and sustainability. A central Town Square anchors the site, defined by four edges, tree-lined streets, and a playful trolley sculpture crafted from recycled acrylic and steel. With a strong focus on multi-modal transit, the Transit Plaza welcomes rail passengers and cyclists from the Capital Crescent Trail. Around the residential buildings, two distinctive courtyards extend the narrative: 1️⃣ The Pool Courtyard channels wind and water movement with soft curves and rhythmic patterns. 2️⃣ The North Courtyard is divided into garden “rooms” with native, shade-loving plants and bioretention planters.
