Rural community power for the win! Uplifting this inspiring blog post from Neighborhood Funders Group on how organizations across the Pacific Northwest are working to build power in rural communities, featuring insight from Magic Cabinet Engagement Officer Joaquin Uy. More on this work below ??
It was an honor to be asked by Integrated Rural Strategies Group to speak at a recent Philanthropy Northwest 2024 Conference workshop, titled "Building Rural Community Power at the Intersections of Economic, Racial, Land, and Gender Justice.” The PNW has experienced a groundswell of base-building organizations in rural communities that are helping transform residents into community organizers and cultivate powerful, long-term change across the region. While the national picture seems bleak, hearing from my fellow speakers from Capaces Leadership Institute, Black Joy Farm, and Firelands Workers United/Trabajadores Unidos was the injection of hope I needed to help get me through these next few years. Big thanks also to fellow conspirators at Pride Foundation and Meyer Memorial Trust for sharing their insight and best practices.
