As we reflect on the profound legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminded of his unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and the inherent dignity of all people. His dream, rooted in the principles of equality and inclusion, continues to serve as both a beacon of hope and hopefully a call to action for all of us. Many years ago, one of the teams I was on went around the table and came up with one representative sentence that highlighted the impact that each of us wished to have.??I was leading enterprise wide changes at the time (not easy!)…and my biggest learnings were twofold.??1. Organizational change happens one person at a time; and, 2. No change can take hold and be sustainable if the leaders don’t believe in it.??This applies to changes big and small – from changing the dress code all the way to large-scale Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs. On this day, I am choosing to honor Dr. King’s achievements and consider the steps I can take to further his mission. Change is not the result of programs alone; it is driven by the collective efforts of individuals and organizations committed to doing the right thing—not because they are mandated to, but because it aligns with their values and intrinsic sense of purpose. Every strategy we have developed in the past and as we get going in 2025 includes work that goes beyond passive ideals.??We partner with our clients to make choices which require courage, accountability, and deliberate action. This work is not large scale since we work with very small organizations.??But it’s impactful nonetheless as I believe that each of us has the power to influence our spheres of control, whether by fostering inclusive environments, advocating for equitable practices, or simply treating others with respect and empathy. By engaging in small, consistent acts of fairness and understanding we can all create ripples of change that extend far beyond our immediate reach. As Dr. King reminds us, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

As performance enablement season kicks off, the spotlight often shines on the art of giving feedback. While we'll dive into that in an upcoming piece and turn it on its ear, let's flip the script today. Instead, let's explore the crucial, yet often overlooked, skill of truly hearing and embracing the feedback we receive. How can we overcome our perceptual limitations and prepare ourselves so we can transform feedback into actionable insights and growth opportunities? Let's dive in.

We are thrilled to introduce the new logo and brand imagery for Maeve Consulting, LLC. Seven years ago, when I first founded the company as a solo practitioner, choosing a name and logo was both a personal and practical decision. I needed a name to incorporate the business, but I also wanted a logo that would stand out—something unique, especially as a female entrepreneur. Like many founders, I turned to my family for inspiration. At the time, our eldest daughter was captivated by Greek mythology, so we began exploring names from that realm. However, most of the powerful and well-known female figures were already claimed by other businesses. It was back to the drawing board. I vividly remember jotting down ideas at stoplights while driving around, trying not to lose a single thought. Since my husband’s family has roots in Ireland, we shifted our focus there. After some research, we discovered the story of Maeve, an Irish warrior queen renowned for her tenacity—especially in her legendary quest to win a prized bull. Meaning “she who rules,” Maeve’s fierce spirit and flowing red hair perfectly embodied what I envisioned. And so, Maeve Consulting, LLC was born. Today, inspired by the leadership development, coaching, and people-centric work we do—primarily in the life sciences and nonprofit sectors—we felt it was time to evolve our brand. With the creative talent of one of our team members, who has a passion for design, we embarked on a redesign that reflects our core values and vision. Our new logo is a symbol of our commitment to partnership, the care we put into every project, and the support we extend to one another as colleagues—and to the clients and leaders we work with. Just as a plant thrives with nurturing, our new imagery reflects the growth and potential that come from being lifted up by others. While our look has evolved, our mission remains the same: we are still the tenacious, hardworking team that’s ready to take on challenges and help our clients “grab the bull by the horns.” We look forward to continuing to work with companies that share our values and beliefs. - Precillia Redmond MBA CCMP

There was quite a buzz a couple weeks ago when The New York Times published the article “So, Human Resources Is Making You Miserable?” In case you haven’t seen it, the piece dives into the perceived disconnect between employees and HR, amplified by the challenges of recent years like the global pandemic. It describes the perspective of some employees who see HR as more aligned with company interests than their own, leading to feelings of distrust and frustration. On the flip side, the article cites that some HR professionals are feeling misunderstood, undervalued, and burned out.? At Maeve, we see and do things differently. Rather than responding right away, we took the time to thoughtfully review and discuss the article and several responses as a team. The dynamic startups we partner with are hyper focused on advancing their missions and goals, typically with a lean team and financial resources. In organizations that are both highly productive and fast-paced,? it can be harder to find the time to invest in culture based work.? But, that doesn’t stop us from trying as best we can to partner with leaders and employees alike to do just that. We’ve seen firsthand how a more thoughtful approach to people and culture practices boosts satisfaction and retention—especially when leaders demonstrate empathy, flexibility, innovation, and inclusion. The article mentions that employees are inundated with policies, but we feel that at the end of the day, it comes to how the company communicates these policies to showcase how these new initiatives better the business. When companies roll out new policies and practices, leaders should communicate “the why” behind the changes so that impacted employees understand the importance of these new initiatives. When employees are better informed they tend to feel more engaged and trust in HR grows—as does overall job satisfaction. Data from Gallup shows companies with high employee engagement enjoy 21% higher profitability, proving the power of a people-centric approach. Employees want to feel that their input is genuinely valued and considered, and that they belong in the organization. When employees feel a true sense of belonging, they’re not just likely to stick around—they’re likely to flourish.? At Maeve we don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” way of doing things. We offer our clients tailored solutions that align with organizational objectives and foster a culture of innovation and excellence. We believe these efforts help bridge the gap between HR and employees and create a positive ripple effect across the entire organization. Overall, at Maeve we’re all about meeting organizations where they are and partnering with business leaders and employees to create the right people solutions. We believe these efforts help bridge the gap between HR and employees and create a positive ripple effect across the entire organization. And for us, we’re not leaving our HR roles anytime soon! Precillia, Matt, Jen, Taylor
