On #DayOfTheGirl, we honor the organizers, students, jokesters, poets, scientists, athletes, creators, photographers, journalists, aspirants, and martyrs who have faced crises with such courage and strength. From Palestine to Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo to Haiti, and beyond, we see you.

As bombs fall across the Middle East, with escalations in Lebanon, Israel, Syria, Yemen, and Palestine, we are reminded that war is always a choice — and a different choice must be made now. Today, countless lives across the region depend on policymakers, including in the United States, prioritizing diplomacy, human rights, and accountability over warfare and retaliation. Bombs cannot create security, only erode and destroy it. MADRE condemns this US-fueled escalation in violence and redoubles our commitment to our local partners, whose community-driven peacebuilding is the key to attaining the security that all people need. We stand with human rights advocates around the world in demanding that the US end arms sales to Israel, commit to real diplomacy, and advocate for an immediate and permanent ceasefire now.

Systemically excluded from public life, Afghan women and girls are unable to speak, laugh, sing, or even show their faces without the threat of violence for daring to exist outside the confines of patriarchal orders. With a gift that will help MADRE advance local grassroots efforts, you can make a direct impact on women and girls, LGBTQIA+ people, and human rights defenders in Afghanistan. https://bit.ly/4ddnDh1
