Madison Public Library users checked out 2.3 million items last year, an increase of 35% over 2022, and library officials say that’s an encouraging statistic. “We are seeing an increase across pretty much all types of checkout,” said Krissy Wick, who became interim library director in December. “I think that it’s just people feeling more comfortable to be back out in the world again.” Wick, who has spent 18 years with Madison Public Library, said some people discovered or rediscovered libraries during the pandemic because they were looking for something to do.
