Thanks Jackie Snow for the interest in our work. There is so much AI for Earth could do, should do, and will do. At least we are doing our best. "Earth awareness" was once data limited, then tech limited. We strongly believe that is not anymore the case. We have the data, and we have the tech (AI). Meet Bruno Sanchez-Andrade Nu?o, the Executive Director CLAY, the AI for Earth nonprofit, where he focuses on making AI learn Earth Maps that are open-source. He co-founded and leads the project. Previously, Bruno co-founded and directed the #PlanetaryComputer at Microsoft, data projects at The World Bank and Chief Scientist at Mapbox, emphasizing his extensive experience in technology, and environmental and social impact. He has completed his postdoctoral studies in Satellite and Rocket Science with NRL/JAXA/NASA. I've known Bruno for nearly a decade, and I'm proud to call him a friend. His humility, knowledge and willingness to improve the world with science make him truly extraordinary. At CES my take on geoAI was that: 1. The biggest risk of #geospatialAI is to think that it's a technical problem and not a product problem. Yes the tech is hard, but it's only to get in the arena.? 2. "Normal AIs", like ChatGPT don't know Earth.... just like reading the Lonely Planet or a travel book is not the same as actually visiting a place. geoAI are Earth aware AIs, that have "visited" millions of satellite images. You don't assess climate change from a travel book. The video of our longer panel at CES is on the first comment below. (I posted the short LinkeIn Live last week). We chatted about the challenges of applying geospatial AI to climate change. It's not just about the technology; it's about making these powerful tools accessible and usable for everyone. From my fellow panelist I loved Overture Maps Foundation Amy Rose' point that promoting open data doesn't mean that all should be open. Or that we often the problem is not the data, but communicating between partners. IBM Hendrik Hamann reflected that AI is taking old data and giving a new life, creating new knowledge. Our host Deloitte Steven Ward, Ph.D. rightfully predicted that real change will NOT come from either environment, policy, or finance, but from the nexus of it. And that nexus will have an important geoAI component.

The goal is to amplify voices that spark positive global change." Our stuff is so open that anyone can use it without any permission, interaction or even mention. We do this by design to minimize friction. But then, it's sometimes harder to know if what we do is actually used or appreciated. This award goes to all of you, partners, supporters and users who do work with Clay, ... the reason this award happened. As we share on the video below, we're guided by a vision of understanding Earth, much better, much faster and much more easily. We can see that world, and we are committed to help make it happen. As part of the #SatSummit plenary, Bruno Sanchez-Andrade Nu?o gave an excellent discourse on the State of AI in geospatial and Earth Observation. Bruno posited that advancements in AI would eat GeoAI (think software is eating the world), and perhaps the traditional geospatial industry is fighting a losing battle. For example, traditional GIS technicians need to unlearn NVDI, because AI/ML engineers can solve this problem more efficiently using modern AI approaches. A parallel he highlighted was that Formula-1 driving teams struggled to train their pitstop teams to perform at peak output because they were trying to teach mechanics how to perform at high output. They learned that finding high-output athletes, like Olympians, and teaching them how to change tires was easier.
