A Life in Science is a series we've been working on with local storytellers and filmmakers alongside students and graduates of the BULLS Life Sciences Academy. Made in Durham, Durham Technical Community College, Durham County Government, and North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBiotech) are core partners in BULLS along with many community-based organizations. - Justus' story of acceptance conveys an emotional side of A Life in Science: the nuances of life experiences that push and pull people toward and away from opportunities. There's #gratitude in receiving and giving back along this #pathway. That's the "why" component of the BULLS story, Made in Durham's defined Purpose: "We believe all Durham youth and young adults should have access and opportunity to participate in the area’s economic prosperity." As we head into a day that we set aside to celebrate our freedom and the opportunity it provides us, I thought I’d take a moment and share a story about ‘Opportunity”.?I have had the pleasure to be part of an amazing collaborative of incredible Durham talent through my engagement with Made in Durham; an organization whose sole purpose is to ensure that ALL DURHAM YOUTH have the OPPORTUNITY to participate in the economic prosperity that occurs in Durham, NC.?It is an amazing group of organizations, institutions and private sector employers designing and executing those opportunities as an education to career ecosystem.?Not a stand alone program…but an ecosystem? that connects, provides, supports and celebrates our Durham youth and young adults in their journey to access economic mobility through meaningful careers in the life sciences; A workforce development solution…providing life changing opportunities.?I’d love to tell you all about it, but Damon can tell you waaay better than I can…Check out his lived experience…his life changing opportunity BELOW:?
