Juneteenth is an important day celebrating independence in our nation. We learned some of the history today at our monthly meeting, mostly notably: June 19, 1865, marks the arrival of Gordon Granger, a Union general, in Galveston, Texas, where he announced the end of slavery and the Civil War, the latter of which had ended on April 9, 1865. As a tribute, we wore red, black and green. Red for the blood people “have spilled in the fight for freedom and in the fight for liberation.”?Green to represent the land and black to signify the people. #juneteenth #fight4equality #freedom4all
