Happy Indigenous People's Day! Today, we celebrate and pay tribute to the vibrant cultural heritage, enduring traditions, and invaluable contributions of Indigenous peoples to our society. Captured here is a moment from last spring's unforgettable concert, The Native Spirits Sing, which shone a spotlight solely on the brilliance of Native American composers. This extraordinary event was curated and performed by the talented P?nar Ba?g?ze, featuring the inspiring works of Dr. Louis Wayne Honga-N?-Zhe Ballard, Brent Michael Davids, and Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate. Accompanying Ba?g?ze were MacPhail faculty members Julie Johnson, Rebecca Merblum, Chi-Chi Bestmann, Ashley Ng, and guest artists Elizabeth York and Sequoia Hauck. At MacPhail, we are dedicated to embracing, understanding, and championing Indigenous music as an integral part of our community. https://lnkd.in/gJqEPvr #IndigenousPeoplesDay

Melissa Wenszell, MacPhail Music Therapy Co-Founder and Senior Music Therapist, received the Music Therapy Association of MN Lifetime Achievement Award for her dedication to the field of music therapy in Minnesota. In more than 20 years of service, Melissa has served hundreds of clients individually and in groups, mentored and supervised numerous students and interns, and helped create music therapy programs through community partnerships. She continues to advocate for the field of music therapy and our clients. MacPhail CEO Paul Babcock commented on Melissa's incredible achievement: “Melissa is most deserving of this award. Her commitment to the music therapy field is commendable, and her work has had a significant impact. Over 20 years ago, Melissa developed the Music Therapy program at MacPhail. During that time, she guided this amazing program forward and has also been instrumental in the growth of music therapy as a field, both locally and nationally. Melissa is an amazing advocate for all, regardless of background, age, or ability. Congratulations, Melissa this award is a testament to your amazing work and commitment.” Here is Melissa photographed with her award, Jane Tate (former MacPhail music therapist and SPL teacher), Mark Burnett (MacPhail music therapist), Jessica Nagel (MacPhail Music Therapy Manager), and Ella Terman (MacPhail Music Therapy Intern). #MusicTherapist #MusicTherapy #MinnesotaMusicTherapy #MinnesotaMusicTherapyWeek

Michael Cain, MacPhail's director of EMRA (Electronic Music Recording Arts) and the founder of EKWE?, a mobile-based music platform that brings a new level of ease to digital music creation, is the keynote speaker at WAVEFRONT on Thursday, August 1 at 8:30 pm. (We've heard there are still a couple of RSVP tickets available - free). We love this concept. Not expensive (no charge to participants) and not just a networking event. Not a happy hour. Just a great way for Minnesota-based innovators, educators, entrepreneurs, and artists to exchange ideas and encourage community– for established and emerging talent alike. Michael will be speaking on the evolution of sound creation at 8:30. If you're there, make sure to say hello.
