Our study explores the environmental footprint of lithium extraction from sedimentary rock (claystone) and its role in sustainable battery production. These findings have critical implications for the future of lithium sourcing and its role in electric vehicle sustainability. Congratulations to Dr. Baker Perry and his team for their successful installation of five weather stations and a glacier flux station on Aconcagua in Argentina! The highest station was installed at 22,769 feet or 6,940 meters above sea level. Over the summer, Alexia Carver, an undergraduate majoring in metallurgical engineering in the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno, spent ten weeks at Idaho National Laboratory working on biometallurgy problems. Carver worked on a project identifying the best conditions for a type of genetically modified bacteria to thrive. https://bit.ly/3El2qGn

For 50 years, the Nevada Seismological Laboratory (NSL) has served as a statewide public service unit while embedded as a research division within the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering. This dual role enables the NSL to provide critical monitoring of fire and earthquake activity throughout Nevada and simultaneously train new generations in earthquake science and instrumentation. https://bit.ly/3ZjEURW
