? Spotlight on Sarah George? Machine Tool Engineering started with a leap of faith and a little bit of whimsy. In 1989, Sarah George was running parts on a machine when the owner, frustrated after a bad day, casually suggested that she and her husband, Kurt, should buy the shop. Thinking it was a joke, Sarah mentioned it to Kurt—only for him to look her in the eye and say, “Okay.” That one moment changed everything. With grit, determination, and every penny they could scrape together, Sarah and Kurt purchased the shop and set out to build their dream. What started as a spur-of-the-moment decision grew into a legacy of precision machining, innovation, and family values. In those early days, the Georges poured everything into MTE—often sleeping in the shop to ensure parts were finished on time. Their oldest daughter, only three years old at the time, could be found in the shop, stacking parts into piles of ten because that’s the highest number she knew how to count. Her “paychecks” came in the form of M&Ms and soda, making her one of the happiest (and youngest) employees MTE has ever had! Their dedication didn’t just grow the business; it created bonds that have stood the test of time. Their first employee, who joined during those early days, is still with MTE to this day. He’s more than an employee—he’s the godfather to Sarah and Kurt’s oldest son, underscoring the deep connections they’ve built over the years. Today, MTE remains a family affair. All four of Sarah and Kurt’s children are part of the team, contributing to the company’s success. And from every part of the office, you can hear squeals of excitement when Sarah and Kurt’s six grandchildren come to visit. The shop fills with joy as they rush to see their Nana, Papa, Aunts, Uncles, parents, and their friends on the shop floor, bringing laughter and life to the workspace. If you ask Sarah about the key to MTE’s success, she’ll tell you it’s about treating everyone like family. From the very beginning, every achievement, milestone, and challenge overcome has been thanks to the dedication, talent, and hard work of the people who make MTE what it is today. “None of this would be possible without the amazing team we have, who we consider part of our family,” Sarah says. “Our success is their success.” With Sarah's leadership, she continues to guide MTE's growth and journey through the industries. ??? As we approach the holiday season, we all know that the shop floor doesn’t take a break! In the spirit of fun and precision, here's a little machinist-themed holiday cheer to keep things light. Wishing everyone a smooth run to the end of the year! ??? Here’s a machinist-themed holiday parody inspired by 'A Visit from St. Nicholas,' commonly attributed to Clement Clarke Moore. 'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the shop, The machines were still running, no spindle would stop. The CNCs were nestled all snug in their bays, While visions of tolerances danced through ways. When out from the toolbox there arose such a clatter, The Vise jumped up, like “What’s the matter?” It was Scrooge, the machinist, tired and annoyed, Saying, “What’s all this fuss? My feeds are destroyed!” But then came the ghost of machining past, A lathe appeared, with a chuck on full blast! “Don’t be so grumpy, just keep it in check, Check with your calipers, or you’ll be a wreck!" Next, the ghost of tooling arrived with a flash, "Remember your end mills, they can’t stand a crash! Don’t just rely on the offsets, keep it precise— If your part’s out of spec, you’re rolling the dice!” And finally, the ghost of machining future, Spewed out a warning, loud as a vulture: “You’re facing the part, not making a mess, But ignore your coolant, and you'll cause distress!” Then Scrooge woke up, squinting in fright, Realizing he forgot to deburr it just right. He rushed to the shop, all happy and bright, And said, “I’m making perfect parts—by the end of tonight!”
