For over five years, MaCher has been proud to support SeaTrees, a not-for-profit company that invests in ocean health by planting and protecting blue carbon coastal ecosystems that support communities and remove carbon from the atmosphere. Their new venture, marine biodiversity credits or ‘Biodiversity Blocks’ is a game changer for funding. 90% of Earth's carbon is stored in the oceans, yet only 4% of conservation and restoration funding is allocated to marine ecosystems. We are thrilled to continue to support their work and this groundbreaking new funding model designed to restore and protect these critical coastal ecosystems. https://lnkd.in/gsRcuwMJ #cop16Colombia #biodiversity

Since 2021, Tourism Cares and MaCher have been offering a program of (free*) sustainability workshops specifically designed for travel industry leaders and are looking for their 4th cohort for the workshops starting in early 2025. The workshops help travel professionals with practical tools to address key sustainability issues such as carbon measurement, supply chain engagement, governance and improving company culture. Interactive group sessions online and one-on-one mentoring provide tailored, practical and real-world guidance for developing and implementing effective sustainability strategies. 13 tour operators and two industry associations, Adventure Travel Trade Association and United States Tour Operators Association have completed the course. Feedback indicates a significant shift in their sustainability priorities. Prior to participating, only 33% of attendees rated sustainability as a top priority in their business (8 out of 10 or higher). This figure rises to 73% after completing the course. A major Tour Operator Executive said: “The Tourism Cares & MaCher Sustainability Course is a great way for any company to start their sustainability journey. The various sessions help to break down any barriers around the topic and help to create the basis to grow a strategy. Learning alongside peers from other tour operators is an added bonus, helping form a motivated community that is there to support each other well after the course finishes.” A small tour company added: “As a small tour company, we were unsure where to begin our sustainability journey. The Tourism Cares sustainability workshop provided us with invaluable tools and insights, along with one-on-one coaching that was tailored to our specific needs. It was incredibly helpful to work alongside other companies, sharing both our successes and challenges, which made the experience even more enriching. I truly believe that sustainability is essential for the future of our industry, and every tour operator should prioritize it. This course is an excellent starting point, and Tourism Cares is an outstanding resource for those looking to make a positive impact.” To become part of the early 2025 cohort or for further details, please contact Paula Vlamings or Derek Hydon *The workshops are free for Tourism Cares current (or future) members. It brings us great joy at MaCher to support the UnTours Foundation's Reset Tourism Fund and we are thrilled that they have reached their Phase One target of $1.5million! The Reset Tourism Fund invests in small tourism businesses that: - Are led by under-represented founders and leaders - Imbed community-enhancing practices into their business models - Fight poverty and restore livelihood by providing good jobs - Regenerate rather than extract from the natural environment - Offer meaningful experiences for ALL travelers, especially those from groups that have been historically underserved and neglected by the industry By becoming a funding partner, no matter the amount, everyone in travel and tourism can directly help underserved communities and businesses gain a more equitable share of the tourism ecosystem, responsibly developing the collective wealth of the industry through strategic investments. We've recently spent some more time volunteering with Safe Place for Youth (SPY). We hope that our creativity helped us leave a colorful and positive impact throughout the garden in our painting of inspirational?rocks and bricks. Throughout the day we had lots of conversations about volunteering, homelessness and how MaCher can continue to support SPY's work. We also planted new seeds and learned about "sister plants" and how nature supports each other. Lastly, we helped prepare beets and a delicious chocolate zucchini?cake which was brought to our Access Center later in the day!

Brian Jewell and MaCher's Patrick W. Marsden had a lively chat about using travel as an opportunity to disconnect digitally. Link is below! We think travel can be an excellent opportunity to put your devices down and do some deep thinking without constant distraction.

MaCher USA, UK and Switzerland partner Patrick W. Marsden spent a meaningful day on the Hill discussing issues with policymakers yesterday. The conversations were focused on reducing visa wait times ahead of the World Cup and Olympics, clarifying DOT language, and appreciation for the reduction in passport wait times. We hope robust funding for the State Depertment is soon to follow! Thank you United States Tour Operators Association for organizing the fly in! Melissa Krueger Vesna Mojas

In B Corp Month, we want to celebrate what the B Corp community has given to us. We have had the opportunity to collaborate with so many incredible B Corps over the years who have supported our evolution as a business and helped us solve problems. There is one partnership we would love to highlight, with the very first Certified B Corp, UnTours ? ? A few months ago, MaCher made a contribution to the UnTours Foundation’s Reset Tourism Fund. The Reset Tourism Fund has been designed to support capital flowing to companies that are transforming the industry for good. The fund invests in small businesses that are operating at the front lines of community impact, economic opportunity, and environmental justice. ? Our own focus areas of action include Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, waste management and decarbonization. We’re particularly thrilled that one of the investments this year has been to Kijani Supplies, a company simplifying sustainable procurement and transforming how the hospitality sector in Kenya orders and accesses its goods and supplies. ? The power that we can have by coming together to create ripples of change sits firmly in the spirit of This Way Forward, the theme for B Corp Month 2024.? We are hugely proud to be part of this bigger movement for change. Jonathan Coleman Sarah Payne, MBA

We are pleased to share our 2023 impact report, complete with our progress as well as transparency around our failings and learnings. Thank you to everyone who reviewed the earlier drafts and we hope you will see how your comments have only helped to increase the clarity of our words and of the design. Our ambition has been crafted through feedback from our stakeholders and understanding our global challenges and our goals for sustainable action have been designed to focus on where our business can have the most significant impact. Our three core pillars of action: Waste reduction, Decarbonization and Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion are all tied to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. These pillars are encompassed by our central tenet of collective action through diverse partnerships. We rely on these relationships to challenge, guide and collaborate with us on responsible business practices. They include industry associations, nonprofits, and B Corp network groups. We still don’t have all the answers on how we will meet all our goals, but experience has taught us that bold ambition and embracing the fear of the unknown, creates an innovative environment where answers are found.
