When your talk takes another 30 minutes because of the unstoppable Q&A ?? Thank you Technology Innovation Institute?for having us! ????♂?Christian Lindener brought down the axe with his talk on #RiskAversion in #AbuDhabi yesterday, asking corporates and government leaders to turn the concept on its head: ?? “Maybe a fearless and innovative culture is not possible or desirable,” said Christian. “Liberate yourself from this idea. Don’t waste time on trying to change the #culture of a whole company that serves your core business well. But what you CAN have, is a disruptive team that chases growth for you.” Some of our favourite questions + ????♂?Christian’s answers: ?? Why is #Europe lagging behind?? Europe has a lot of challenges. There’s a lot of uncertainty and the culture is risk-averse anyway; it’s always been difficult to venture within Europe! #MENA instead, is ready to go. There's capital, youth and talent. All you need is method, understanding and know-how to support what is already underway. ?? Large companies have a lot of assets – how do you go about using them?? Only if you use the mothership advantage – technology or know-how from within – will you reap your advantages and ensure you’re faster and can scale quicker than startups. To unlock them, you need the right process, you need a dedicated (outside) team, you need to hire entrepreneurs, and you need a solid method. ?? How do you convince senior executives? You can only convince them if your company already has a sense of urgency, a desire to transform and a CEO who is a visionary leader not incentivized by bonus- and shareholder value (or quarter-over-quarter returns). Leadership should be interested in the long term survival of the company. Only then can they be convinced.
