Recent policy changes have created new challenges for nonprofits, including federal funding freezes and shifts in government priorities. Many organizations that provide essential services—such as healthcare, food assistance, and shelter—are seeing increased demand while facing financial uncertainty. Nonprofit leaders report that these changes impact child abuse prevention, senior services, domestic violence shelters, and more. Many are calling for more flexible funding, open communication with funders, and long-term support to continue their work. The new administration's rules might affect nonprofits, even if they don’t get money from the government. Some groups could lose funding, even if they don’t spend it on things the rules say are not allowed. The rules about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are not clear yet, and some are being challenged in court. Not just our network, but nonprofits in general, should be careful because their tax-exempt status could be at risk if they do things the government later says are not okay. The government can also cancel grants or contracts, so nonprofits should have backup plans. Some big nonprofits might be investigated, and new contracts might have rules against DEI work. Groups should stay updated, talk to lawyers if needed, and check for changes to these rules. ? Please stay informed and learn more about these individual changes: https://lnkd.in/eTCNdkgA ? #maccmn #nonprofit #administration #changes #resources

At The Forum, we know leadership isn’t just about titles—it’s about how we show up, how we pour into others, and how we build the future together. And no one embodies that more than Jaralyn Roberts. As our Leadership Development Director, Jaralyn has walked the path of transitioning from a corporate career to a role that feeds both her purpose and her people. She knows firsthand that when leaders feel seen, heard, and supported, they don’t just succeed—they thrive. In the latest podcast episode, hosted by Laurel Hansen, Metropolitan Alliance of Connected Communities's Program Manager, Jaralyn shares her journey and the lessons she’s carrying forward: ?? “Black leaders are resilient in ways that are a strength to our organizations, and we tend to lead in a community-focused way.” ?? “I felt seen and heard and watered after coming to The Forum.” ?? “Seeing others grow has made me dig in even more—because I’m growing too.” ?? The photo? A full-circle moment—Jaralyn presenting a Josie R. Johnson Leadership Academy Fellow with his completion award, celebrating his growth and the legacy of leaders rising together. Jaralyn leads our work with the Josie R. Johnson Leadership Academy Fellows, and if you’re ready to step into your next level of leadership, applications open next month! ?? ?? ACTION OPPORTUNITY!! ?? The Protecting Sensitive Locations Act is a new law being introduced to help keep immigrant families safe. It stops immigration officers from going to places like schools, hospitals, churches, and food banks to arrest people. These places are important because they help families get the care and support they need. A rule like this used to exist, but the Trump Administration recently removed it. Without it, many families may feel scared and avoid going to school or the doctor. This new law would make sure that no future president can easily take these protections away. It also requires training for officers and reports on any times they don’t follow the rules. The goal is to make sure families feel safe and can keep living their lives without fear. ?
