Meet Emiko Pope, our summer Engineering Intern! Emiko joins as a rising senior from MIT studying mechanical engineering and physics.?Outside of her studies, Emiko is an MIT Varsity Women's Soccer Team member and blogs for the university's admissions department. Though she's a Midwesterner at heart, Emiko fits right in here in Austin with her love for country music. This summer, along with client projects, she is working on a special project to help the broader M3 team better understand how we can continue incorporating AI into our process (more to come on that later). Welcome Emiko!

It's with a heavy heart that we share the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Coleman Horton.?? ? Coleman was a dedicated and talented engineer whose contributions throughout his 17+ years at M3 were invaluable to our team. Coleman was instrumental in the development of several of our most successful programs. His experience spanned a wide range of products in many markets, including medical devices, consumer products, aerospace, and industrial machinery, many of which are making a real impact in the world today.? ? In 2006, Coleman joined M3 as an intern from the University of Texas at Austin. Despite being tasked with less-than-glamorous jobs like preparing pig bones for prototype testing, Coleman quickly fell in love with the creative challenges of product development. His knack for connecting with people, combined with his meticulous approach to field research, made him a natural at bringing real-world insights back to our design team.?? ? We'll always remember Coleman for his calm demeanor and perpetually positive attitude. When frustrations ran high over a tricky prototype or design challenge, Coleman would step in as the voice of reason. He had this amazing ability to break problems down piece by piece, crafting clever solutions that made us all wonder, "Why didn't we think of that?" This creativity was evident in the 10+ patents in which Coleman was named co-inventor.?? ? Coleman was our resident tech enthusiast, always eager to try out the latest gadgets. He held himself to incredibly high standards, both in the products he designed and the ones he brought into his own life. His attention to detail and commitment to excellence were evident in every aspect of his work, from his product design process to maintaining the shared shop space.?? ? Outside of M3, Coleman was a devoted husband and father to three young daughters. He loved to share his passion for engineering with his girls, and on weekends they would often be found in the studio with him exploring the creative spaces and leaving notes to the folks at M3 on our many whiteboards (some notes are still there, reminding us of happier times).?? ? Even when he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer,?his passion for product development never faded, turning his hospital stays into impromptu field research opportunities.?After his first few treatments, in true Coleman fashion, he reported back to us, saying, "The nurse gave me a funny look when I explained to her that the reason she was taping the flow restrictor to my skin was to maintain a more consistent fluid temperature, and thus viscosity, which is directly proportional to the flow rate in Poiseuille's Law equation. Obviously." That was our Coleman – finding fascination and humor even in the toughest circumstances.??[Continued in the comments.]
