Here at M+K Development we use a tape measure multiple times a day when in the field! Here are some fun facts about the tape measure: Ancient Origins: The first tape measures were used in ancient Egypt, where they employed measuring systems to build the pyramids and other structures. These early "tape measures" were often made from rope, leather, or other flexible materials. Invention of the Modern Tape Measure: The modern metal tape measure was invented by James Chesterman?of Sheffield, England, in 1829. Chesterman's design used a spring to retract the tape, making it much easier to store and carry. The Longest Tape Measure: The longest retractable tape measure ever created is about 1,000 feet (305 meters)?long! This is often used for measuring large areas like construction sites or for surveying.
