As we approach Hispanic Heritage Month, we’d like to take a moment to recognize the rich culture, history, and contributions of the Hispanic and Latinx communities. From September 15th to October 15th we have the opportunity to celebrate not only the achievements of Hispanic Americans but also the diversity that strengthens our society and workplace. This month serves as a reminder of the importance of inclusion and understanding as we continue to work towards fostering an environment that values all perspectives. We encourage everyone to participate in the activities, events, and learning opportunities available this month. Let’s take this time to honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future contributions of the Hispanic and Latinx communities. Join the Jandriel Heredia Scholarship this Sunday at their Healing and Resource Fair! Family, friends and community members impacted by community violence are invited to attend this free event - featuring resources and information from a number of community organizations, along with food, raffle prizes, speakers and music. ?? Bridging the Gap: Underfunding for Latino Nonprofits Latino-serving nonprofits in Massachusetts are facing a funding crisis despite the increasing demand for their services. With Latinos making up 12% of the state's population—projected to grow to 15.3% by 2035—these nonprofits account for just 0.8% of all nonprofits in the state. This is especially pressing in Essex County, home to 20% of the Latino population but only 9 Latino-serving nonprofits. The disparity is stark, and we need your support. Join us in advocating for equitable philanthropic funding that reflects the true needs of our community. The Lynn Hispanic Scholarship Fund (LHSF) celebrated its annual gala on May 22, 2024, awarding $30,000 in scholarships to 13 students from Lynn, Massachusetts, in a night filled with celebration and the honoring of Jandriel Heredia, a former student killed in a shooting. However, the joy was overshadowed by a nearby shooting, with the next morning's headline reading, “1 injured in shooting at local beach.” This blog emphasizes the community's resilience, as families unite to support their youth and transform tragedies into strength. It highlights the significance of trust-based philanthropy and expresses gratitude to The Boston Foundation's Latino Equity Fund for their support.
