Lynchburg Beacon of Hope

During the last days of the school year, Linkhorne, Sandusky, and Dunbar 8th grade students and teachers rotated around the University of Lynchburg campus to attend different stations that focused on college and career readiness. It all culminated in a tailgate on the Dell with ice cream! The sessions included: ???listening to current college students discuss college life ???learning about medical careers and attempting CPR on robots with Centra ???watching EMTs and firefighters explain life-saving technology with the Lynchburg Fire Department ???practicing planning a budget for college and life with an ECMC representative ???talked to local and regional college admissions representatives (UVA, VT, Sweet Briar, U of L, Liberty, Longwood, and Randolph)

Beacon of Hope proudly presents Leidra McQueen as the new Executive Director. After 14 years, the wonderful and inspiring Laura Hamilton is stepping into her next chapter; there is no one more equipped or ready to take Beacon of Hope into the next 14 years like Leidra McQueen. A proud graduate of Heritage High School and the University of Virginia, Leidra was the architect for the Future Centers when she joined Beacon in 2014. Since then, she’s held various roles within Beacon. Leidra is an active member of UVA’s Young Alumni Council, a DePaul Community Resources board member, and has been a featured speaker at the local, state, and national level. The Board of Directors and staff at Beacon of Hope are grateful for our firm foundation, and thrilled about moving forward with Leidra leading the way.
