This week we welcomed 40 guests from?Upstream Alliance?and their incredible supporters, funders, and volunteers to see our latest progress on Firefly - the 49’ aluminum solar-powered floating classroom that will bring transformative, on-water STEM education to Camden, NJ and Philadelphia students. ?????? Built for Learning: Firefly is designed to safely accommodate an entire class, providing hands on experiences like water quality testing, specimen collection, and even overnight expeditions. Cutting-Edge & Sustainable: With solar-electric power, zero fuel costs, and innovative features like a lifting platform for full accessibility, Firefly will set the standard for green maritime technology. Lifelong Impact: Every Camden, NJ student experiences Firefly at least 3 times before graduating high school - a proven approach to fostering environmental stewardship. Firefly will help Camden reconnect to its waterway, the Delaware River. Introducing the first of its kind - “Firefly” is the first lithium-ion, fully-electric, USCG subchapter-T boat. Supplemental solar panels help charge the 49’ aluminum catamaran. This groundbreaking project was commissioned by Upstream Alliance for use on the Delaware River, where they provide on-the-water experiences for conservation leaders who can improve public access, clean water, and coastal resilience. Building a boat is an art form, but flipping it over is one, too. Shout out to the Thomaston team for making the hull flip of our new Hood 42 LM look easy. The first views inside the cold-molded Douglas fir and western red cedar hull are so stunning. This vessel (part of our continued collaboration with CW Hood Yachts) is going to be an absolute showstopper. Her timeless elegance melds beautifully with modern performance and advanced technology package. She'll be fast thanks to her Volvo Penta of the Americas D6 engines with integrated trim tab system.
