This day is especially meaningful as I spend it with incredible leaders in?AI and drug development?at Pegasus Park in Dallas, hosted by?Lyda Hill Philanthropies. For Dallas philanthropist Lyda Hill, championing science isn’t just a cause — it’s a calling. The billionaire entrepreneur has given away hundreds of millions of dollars to scientific research and to inspiring a new generation of young minds toward science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Now, on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Lydia Hill Philanthropies’ IF/THEN Initiative has announced a partnership with Reese Witherspoon’s media company Hello Sunshine to produce and distribute films and TV shows furthering Hill’s aspirational vision of women in STEM. I'm excited to share this article that I wrote for The Water Report US about my work creating a new water sharing framework. In today’s water-scarce American West, traditional “willing buyer, willing seller” water transactions lead to too many unintended winners and losers. What’s missing is a framework that puts on equal footing benefits and impacts to agriculture, cities, and the environment. These three pillars can create a path towards real win-win-win solutions. Palmer Land Conservancy's Bessemer Farmland Conservation Project charts an instructive course for communities throughout the West, providing lessons in resilience, conservation, and growth. https://lnkd.in/gvW8y5_n Thanks Shaina Shay for providing this opportunity!

New grant for a potential game-changer for the U.S. health system. A $100,000 grant awarded to SMU engineering professors J.-C. Chiao and Ali Beskok will support ongoing research for their Lab-on-a-Chip test, which can detect immune responses to COVID-19 in just 2-3 minutes using only a drop of blood. The same technology could potentially be adapted to identify biomarkers for noninfectious, chronic diseases such as cancers, cardiac and coronary artery diseases. Thanks for the grant, Lyda Hill Philanthropies. Southern Methodist University

We are thrilled to announce our first collaborations with Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy, Baylor Scott & White Health Research Institute, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to optimize clinical research. Joined by Lyda Hill Philanthropies, Highlander Health Institute will support a portfolio of projects at these esteemed institutions to gain insights and create innovation to simplify clinical trials and maximize the potential of real-world data. Today, co-founder Amy Abernethy spoke at the STAT Summit and highlighted these inaugural partnerships. Unlike other technological advances, the cost and complexity of clinical trials have worsened over time. We need new innovative approaches to trial design, data usage, and conduct. Amy explained how the Highlander Health Institute will create learning labs and pressure test new approaches.?You can read more here - https://lnkd.in/gc7_Zs6j #ClinicalTrials #RealWorldData #ClinicalResearch
