Nonpartisan political organization // Encouraging informed and active participation in government
关于我们
The League of Women Voters has fought since 1920 to improve our government and engage our communities in the decisions that impact our lives. The League operates at national, state, and local levels through more than 800 state and local Leagues in all 50 states, as well DC, the Virgin Islands, and Hong Kong. Formed from the movement that secured the right to vote for women, the centerpiece of the League's efforts remains to expand participation and give political voice to all Americans. Our work is grounded in our respected history of making democracy work for all. *** Democracy Maine works to make government more equitable, inclusive, and accessible by improving elections, protecting and engaging voters, increasing civic engagement, and reducing the influence of private money in politics. Democracy Maine is a collaboration between three nonpartisan organizations — League of Women Voters of Maine, Maine Citizens for Clean Elections, and Maine Students Vote — that partner on advocacy and education efforts.

65% of Americans support a National Popular Vote for President, according to a Pew Research Center Poll released in September 2023. That includes 47% of Republicans (up from 27% in 2016), and 63% of “moderate and liberal Republicans say they would back the country moving to a popular vote for president.” The Maine Legislature will pick up the NPV bill, LD 1578, in January 2024 when the second half of the 131st session officially begins. The bill is co-sponsored by Republican Senator Matthew Pouliot. It's crucial to contact your legislators and ask them to support NPV. Don’t let your legislators use constituent silence as an excuse for not supporting the National Popular Vote. Tell them that you expect their support for the NPV bill, LD 1578, when it comes before them.
