This update includes a few fixes and introduces new features to support the large number of projects we’ve promised earlier. You can now filter projects and adjust settings more easily. As a proof of concept, we’ve also added the first #NuttX projects. Additionally, the app is now notarized by Apple, ensuring a smooth experience for Mac users. UI/UX Design on a 4.3” ESP32 Display Using Claude AI, LVGL, PlatformIO, and EEZ Studio When it comes to UI/UX design, embedded systems engineers can be roughly classified into three categories. The Gifted Unicorns: These are the engineers who seem to have been sprinkled with the rare combination of analytical brilliance and creative flair. They write code like they’re composing music, build elegant hardware, and design beautiful UIs. Whether it’s pixel-perfect screens, robust and efficient programs, or beautifully laid-out PCBs, these engineers can do it all. The Remix Artists: This group has an eye for good UI/UX but isn’t quite sure where to start when it comes to creating something original. They excel at taking existing designs, polishing them, and turning them into something better. The Backend Wizards: These folks are phenomenal at what they do—cranking out code, solving hardware challenges, and shipping solid products. But when it comes to UI/UX, well, let’s just say they’re okay with launching a product that looks like it stepped out of Windows 98. After all, who needs fancy graphics when your backend is a work of art? In reality, most engineers fall into the second or third category. The truth is, in the embedded systems world, we’re often asked to wear multiple hats—hardware, firmware, and/or software design and development and, yes, sometimes UI/UX design, whether we like it or not. In this post, we explore how AI, specifically Claude AI, can lend a hand when it comes to UI/UX design for embedded systems. Whether you’re a creative engineer looking to speed up your design process or a developer tasked with creating a coffee machine UI but have no idea where to begin, this one’s for you. This post follows up on my previous tutorial, where we got started with a 4.3-inch capacitive-touch ESP32-based display using open-source libraries and tools like LVGL, LovyanGFX, EEZ Studio, and Visual Studio Code with PlatformIO IDE. Our Second Case Study is Out! ?? This time, we're showcasing Xiaomi Technology and its #HyperOS. For several years, LVGL has been integrated into Xiaomi’s ecosystem, powering a wide range of consumer electronics products. ?? As a large company, Xiaomi has complex workflows and unique requirements to support diverse hardware. With LVGL being open-source, they were able to customize it to suit their specific needs and seamlessly integrate it into their workflows. Given Xiaomi’s massive scale, even a small royalty fee per device would accumulate to an astronomical amount.
