We recently completed a large-scale, gut-renovation of the first Net-Zero carbon emissions senior housing in New York State ?? Colonial II Apartments, located in Rome, NY, is a 74 bedroom-apartment complex for seniors and people with disabilities. The building is equipped with: ??A closed-loop geothermal system with thirty-four 500-foot-deep wells ? Solar array (215 kW) that covers 98% of the annual electricity supply ? Central heat pump, hot water heaters with a recirculation loop ? EV charging ??Highly efficient & cost-effective exterior windows and wall panels ? Reconfigured apartment sizes ? Communal spaces, laundry facilities, outdoor courtyard ? Completely gutted units with new flooring, trim, paint, kitchen cabinets and appliances The project was awarded $1.3 million through NYSERDA’s Buildings of Excellence Competition, which recognizes exemplary design, construction, and operation of carbon-neutral ready multifamily buildings.
