Lunda Construction Company is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the Main Street Bridge project on US 45 over the Fox River in Oshkosh, Wisconsin! While the existing structure of this iconic and historic bascule bridge is safe for vehicles and pedestrians, many components are nearing the end of their useful service life. This project will rehabilitate existing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components of the bascule span, and extend the service life of the bridge. Work will also include replacement of the steel deck on the movable span, repairs to the operator's house, and improvements to the approach span concrete deck. Congratulations to our Quarry Lake Trail Pedestrian Bridge team for winning the joint AGC/MnDOT Bridge Award in the "Medium Cost Structure" Category for Bridge No. 70054, a pedestrian trail bridge over U.S. Highway 169 in Shakopee, Minnesota! Lunda's winning project is a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge connecting Quarry Lake Park and the Minnesota Valley State Trail, eliminating a nearly five-mile gap in the regional trail system. The bridge is designed to meet ADA guidelines, ensuring accessibility for all users, and making it easier to travel between different parts of the regional trail network, from residential, educational and commercial areas south of Highway 169, to employment and recreational destinations north of Highway 169. The AGC/MnDOT Bridge Awards recognize and showcase craftsmanship, technical skills, innovation, and dedication to quality in the bridge construction market. The Hastings Bridge over the Mississippi River in Hastings, Minnesota, is more than just a striking landmark. When it opened in 2013, this record-breaking 545-foot main span, 1,938-foot bridge was the longest freestanding tied-arch bridge in North America, utilizing a steel box arch rib with a post tensioned concrete tie girder and network hanger system, and boasting a 100-year service life. Located in narrow section of the Mississippi River, and downstream of Lock and Dam Number 2, the project's limited staging areas required extensive coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, BNSF Railroad, CP Railroad, and local stakeholders. Lunda's engineers proposed constructing the tied arch offsite, and using self-propelled modular transporters to move the Hastings arch onto barges (check it out! https://lnkd.in/gNgzUu-Z). The finished main span arch was then floated down river, into position at the project site. This innovative approach reduced project costs, mitigated risk, reduced impacts to local river traffic, and improved quality and efficiency of the arch erection process.
