Who knows what goes on in the middle of the night? Lunda's I-494 Minnesota River Bridge crew does! Lunda was selected by MnDOT to perform major structural maintenance work on this important bridge near the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. The scope of work includes replacing bridge joints and repairing the bridge deck, as well as work on beam ends, railings, drainage, and other improvements. When completed, travelers across the bridge will benefit from a safer road, as well as a smoother ride. Replacing a bridge over a popular recreational waterway involves meticulous planning. Add an aggressive schedule and you've got a challenging project on your hands. Fortunately, Lunda's crew was up to the task on the Deer Tail Creek Bridge replacement project in Holcombe, Wisconsin. The work involved removing an existing 3-span steel girder bridge and replacing it with a new 3-span prestressed girder bridge. The project required building two cofferdams simultaneously, then pouring concrete seals, and constructing two solid shaft piers, all in a busy recreational waterway. The Lunda team accomplished this while maintaining full operational use of the stream channel, much to the delight of those enjoying summer days on the water.
