Recent findings from a meta-review published in Frontiers in Public Health highlight the critical need for effective screening of paternal perinatal mental illness (PPMI). The study underscores that about one in ten fathers experience mental health challenges during the perinatal period. Despite this, the most widely used tool, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), often falls short of capturing the unique symptoms men experience. This research points to the importance of developing more tailored screening instruments to ensure fathers receive the support they need during this pivotal time.
