Luminous Robotics, Inc. aims to become the fastest iterating robotics company in the world. Our vision is to commoditize *harsh* manual work. We design, build, and ship embodied AI robotic systems for the industrials – uniquely focused on manual use cases beyond the scope and capacity of a single human (e.g. solar construction). Our mission is to solve one of the biggest problems of our generation – building renewable energy infrastructure at an unprecedented rate never seen before in the history of the solar industry – which is seeing labor and logistics bottlenecks jeopardizing our transition to a green, decarbonization future. As a response, we created LUMI, a robot designed from first principles to 10x the full lifecycle of solar to construct, operate, and decommission solar farms of all sizes, at a global scale. We are a team of ex-NASA, Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Softbank Robotics, Nissan, and GE founders who have not only worked at world class companies, shipping 1000s of robots into production, but have also built, scaled, and exited multiple startups. We’ve built and shipped LUMI 001, installing its first solar farm in VA - likely on the fastest timeline for a hardware company from zero to prod (10 weeks). I’m delighted to be speaking at CERAWeek by S&P Global — the world's preeminent energy conference. Today, we’re at a point in time, where energy infrastructure needs to be scaled at rates never seen before in the history of the industry. It’s quite evident that, now more than ever, robotics and automation must play a critical role in reimagining the scaling laws for our future. I now see a path to 1000+ flexible robots empowering the most underserved solar projects — challenging environments, terrains, and operational nuances. Last week, LUMI was busy on a few sites, traversing thick mud, deep snow, in rain, and sub-freezing temps — installing some panels, but more importantly learning, understanding, and conforming to the crews and sites’ needs. As a result, LUMI has accumulated massive data and is now able to reason around the Electrician’s wiring preferences on the fly and position panels accordingly to adhere to these constraints. This is the first time automation has had the reasoning capacity (AI) and mechanism IP to pull this off. We’ve discovered significant room to improve LUMI’s reasoning AI (now fueled by 100 GB of onsite data). There’s still work to be done. We iterate fast; our team will be in production in several days to install modules at peak rate. Stay tuned!

Our ambition is to ship LUMI to some of the most difficult solar construction projects in the world. - Challenging topography. - Remote geographies. - Harsh weather conditions. - Minimal civil work. - Terrain and racking geometries dangerous for humans to install. About 42% of the industry is distributed generation and fall under this category — no other automation system has had the flexibility to handle these types of variances. Last week, Luminous unveiled LUMI Series 3 in response to this absurd gap in the industry. LUMI has rapidly evolved into a powerful, flexible robot able to conform to any flow and operations. This is the day I’ve been looking forward to for the past few months. Thank you all for joining us last night to celebrate the accumulation of herculean engineering effort where we unveiled LUMI Series 3 — our latest automated solar construction machine we’ll ship and scale to the world. As you know, LUMI has been on arguably the fastest timeline for any robotics product in the planet: - LUMI S1: 10 weeks from 0 to in field production - LUMI S2: 10 weeks tracked drivetrain - LUMI S3: 20 weeks complete robot upgrade Luminous is < 1.5 years old. A startup’s greatest competitive advantage is speed. If we continue on this pace, we’ll soon be 24-36 months ahead of everything else. Luminous will not succeed being a robotics company…Luminous will succeed by being a people company. Word of the day: Sonder - the profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passing in the street, has a life as complex as one's own, which they are constantly living despite one's personal lack of awareness of it. This best describes the culture and community we envision building through Luminous. I believe that instead of being enamored with shiny features and numbers, getting lost in the noise — the truth is technology (and its requirements) will evolve over time, but what persists across time is people’s genuine desire to connect to, befriend, and help each other succeed. For that reason, I believe the greatest moat we can build is by opening our ears to industry pain and our hearts to resonate with the folks we serve. And in sonder, understand just a glimmer of their past, in order to forge a collaborative future together. That goes to the crew onsite building our energy infrastructure, to the folks back in the office, justifying LUMI and willing a path for it to succeed on the field.
