Do your scholars need a little help mastering their short vowel sounds? As students learn to read, it can be tricky to differentiate between phonics rules, especially when it comes to short and long vowel sounds. But don’t worry – we’ve got you covered! ?? ?? Strategy #1: Identifying Medial Short Vowel Sounds with Letter Tiles: To help your child master short vowel sounds, focus on identifying medial vowel sounds (the middle sound) in simple words. A fun way to do this is by using letter tiles to build and decode words with short vowels! This hands-on activity helps children actively engage with sounds and letters, strengthening their phonics skills. ?? Tip: Say a word like cat, pen, or hop, and ask your child to identify the middle sound. Then, use letter tiles to build the word together, emphasizing the medial short vowel sound as you go! ??
