We’re finishing off in San Jose for our Women’s History Month celebrations! Last but not least it’s Diane Larrabee, Director of Technology Integration: Q: What does Women’s History Month mean to you? A: Unlike my grandmother I’ve been able to pursue the education I wanted, and unlike my mother I’ve enjoyed a generous maternity leave. This month is a reminder of how much I’ve benefitted from our country’s progress on gender equality. Q: What’s one word to describe your career at Lumileds? A: Growth. I’ve had the opportunity to work in various roles and learn from many strong colleagues and managers. Beyond that I really appreciate Lumileds’ culture of helpfulness and sharing. Q: What advice would you give your younger self? A: Learn more programming! It’s like touch-typing, and it makes everything else easier. #WomensHistoryMonth

Next up in our Women’s History Month celebrations, our own Cora Hecht, Senior Manager of Process Engineering, describes the importance of women mentors and role models when pursuing a #STEM career: Q: Have you had any female role models in your career? A: I’ve always held a former colleague in high esteem because she managed to raise three kids without missing a beat in her career. She always seemed to know exactly what she wanted and needed to be happy. And she went for it. Q: Who is one historical woman you admire? A: Marie Curie was a physicist and chemist renowned for being a pioneer in the scientific community. I admire how she pursued her passion for science with such tenacity. My favorite quote from her is, “Be less curious about people and more curious about ideas.” Q: What makes diversity in STEM fields so important? A: Homogeneous groups often have established ways of working, thinking, communicating, and making decisions. These structures become more flexible once a certain threshold in diversity is reached, leading to more innovation, different perspectives, and out-of-the-box ideas. #WomensHistoryMonth

For Women’s History Month we’re shining a spotlight on the women at Lumileds all month long! Our own Chan Yoke Chew, Color Control Engineering Manager, is up first to discuss her experience as a woman in #STEM: Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in STEM? A: When I first entered university, Penang’s semiconductor industry was booming, and that’s when I was introduced. I like working with chemicals, which has always inspired my curiosity to explore, imagine, and find answers. As an engineer, I can apply observing, analyzing, and problem-solving skills to science. Q: What makes diversity in STEM fields so important? A: Celebrating everyone’s uniqueness promotes inclusion, innovation, and creativity. When we talk about women, the experiences that we’ve gone through will be very valuable in addressing various real-world challenges. Q: What's one word to describe your career at Lumileds? A: Opportunity—I’ve grown tremendously throughout my 15+ years at Lumileds. Working in different departments, in various roles, and with female mentors has improved my ability to light up the world! #WomensHistoryMonth
