Starcloud (YC S24) has been selected as one of 15 companies for the 2025 Google Cloud AI Accelerator! ???? (The only hardware company!)
White Paper: Starcloud.com/wp We are building a network of megawatt-scale data centers?in space, scalable to gigawatt capacity. Falling launch costs allow us?to take advantage of the abundant energy, passive cooling, and ability to rapidly scale in space.

I wasn’t joking when I said Starcloud (YC S24) is building one of the ???????? ????????????-?????????? ?????????????????????????? in the world! ?? In 2 weeks, we have signed the following people (it took us 18 months to make our first hire!): 1. The engineer from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory who designed the thermal management system for the recent deep space probe 2. An engineer who spent 4 years at SpaceX designing the human space flight crew module and Starlink 3. An MIT grad who has been designing battery tech for aerospace and launch vehicles for the last 4 years 4. An embedded systems and cloud hardware infrastructure engineer from Azure, who also writes software for satellites Keep an eye out for them over the next few weeks! We have a few spots left open on the dream team, check out starcloud.com/careers !
??
We'll be at Space Foundation Space Symposium in a couple of weeks. Let me know if you're around!

Excited to share that we have raised an additional $10M, bringing the total Seed raise for Starcloud (formerly Lumen Orbit) to $21M. We are looking for exceptional engineers, message me if you want to change the world (and solar system)! ?? starcloud.com/careers Ezra, Adi, Bailey

Cool to host Y Combinator (Ryan & Steven) who are documenting the journey of the first Starcloud (YC S24) satellite! ?? It’s gona be a good video! ?? Our first satellite, launching in June, will have 100x more powerful GPU compute than has ever been operated in space before. And going from zero to first launch in 18 months, makes us one of the fastest moving space companies ever! ?? And shout out to Astro Digital for making space ??

Today’s the deadline to apply for Y Combinator spring batch. Crazy to think only 8 months ago we recorded our application for Star Cloud (YC S24) on the deadline day!
Lumen Orbit is now Star Cloud!
Lumen Orbit is now Star Cloud (YC S24)! Same mission to build huge data centers in space ??
Lumen Orbit: Solar-Powered Data Centers in Space Alex interviews Philip Johnston, co-founder and CEO of Lumen Orbit (YC S24), about the bold vision of building data centers in space. With surging energy demands and AI's insatiable compute needs, this idea could redefine the future of energy and technology. Key Insights: ? Exponential Energy Needs: Data centers could consume half of global electricity in 20 years. Lumen Orbit aims to leverage space-based solar energy to meet these demands without Earth’s efficiency losses. ? Massive Vision: Think four-kilometer-wide solar arrays powering data centers directly in orbit, avoiding the need for energy transfer back to Earth. ??Launch Costs are Key: Success hinges on the dramatic reduction of launch costs (potentially by 10-100x). Starship’s progress could make this economically viable. ? Infinite TAM: The total addressable market for energy and compute at scale is nearly limitless—if the economics and execution align. A bold idea at the intersection of energy, compute, and space innovation— could this could be a trillion-dollar opportunity?

Great to see Forbes listing #datacentersinspace one of the top predictions for 2025 "A buzzy startup out of Y Combinator named Lumen Orbit?recently raised?$11m to pursue this exact vision: building a multi-gigawatt network of data centers in space to train AI models. As Lumen CEO Philip Johnston put it: “Instead of paying $140 million for electricity, you can pay $10 million for a launch and solar.” Lumen will not be the only organization taking this concept seriously in 2025." We are hiring exceptional engineers ?? lumenorbit.com/careers Ezra Feilden, Bailey Montano, Lumen Orbit (YC S24)
