??A massive THANK YOU to the Ambassadors for Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford for shining a light on their Fund-A-Need for the Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Teen Van at this year’s 17th Annual Lunch & Learn!??? ? The?Teen Van is a mobile clinic offering free health services to uninsured and underinsured youth, ages 12 to 25, in the San Francisco Bay Area. The van visits high schools, community colleges, and nonprofit organizations from as far south as San Jose and as far north as San Bruno.? ? “We think of ourselves as people who help facilitate young people’s development... and help them transition into adulthood in a way that will allow them to reach their full potential,” said Dr. Arash Anoshiravani, Medical Director for the Stanford Teen Van.? ? Music therapy uses evidence-based interventions to address the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of our patients and their families. ?? Music therapy helps with pain management, reducing stress and anxiety, supporting rehabilitation and resilience, improving quality of life, and enhancing family bonding. ?? Our Packard Children’s music therapy program was launched with an endowed gift from visionary philanthropists Esther and Dan Levy, who established the Andrew M. Levy Music Therapist Endowed Fund to honor their late son, Andrew. ?? Endowments are investment funds that provide long-term support to Packard Children’s. With their gift, Esther and Dan Levy have ensured that music therapy will always be a part of our patients’ hospital experiences. ?? ??One year ago,?Jayce?entered the world with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS)—a life-threatening condition where the left side of his heart didn’t develop properly. At just 2 days old, he had his first open-heart surgery. By 4 months, he faced another. ?????This Heart Month, we’re spotlighting groundbreaking research at the Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center’s Basic Science and Engineering (BASE) Initiative!? ?? In 2023, Xiaojie Qiu, PhD, joined BASE at Stanford—a one-of-a-kind program dedicated to understanding and ultimately curing congenital heart disease (CHD). Using single-cell genomics and machine learning, Dr. Qiu is creating a detailed cellular map of the heart to pinpoint where and when heart disease develops.? ?? And there’s more exciting news—since this article was published, Dr. Qiu was awarded the prestigious NIH Director’s New Innovator Award and his research was published in Cell Magazine. Nature Magazine even called his work “breakthrough science.”?????? ??
