Perhaps most crucial in our efforts to prevent suicide are early detection and understanding risk factors. Groups that face isolation and discrimination like the LGBTQ+ population, veterans and older men are at higher risk for suicidality. Tech-enabled measurement-based care tools can aid clinicians in catching risk factors before they progress and reduce the need for crisis care. "It boils down to the commitment to having Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) on the team. You're able to talk to talk through any issues you may have with the red tape." The complexity of autism care requires dedicated and talented professionals. That's why we have BCBAs on our team to facilitate communication with health plan partners and their providers like Billy Richardson, BCBA. Together, we are setting a new standard for autism care. Important work from Little Otter ?? #BehavioralHealth #MentalHealth #ChildhoodMentalHealth #AdolescentMentalHealth #FamilyMentalHealth
It's World Suicide Prevention Day I'm going talk about something really hard today that I'm also really proud that we’re surfacing: Suicide rates in really young kids. What many people don’t realize is that suicide is the second leading cause of death for kids 10-15, and our data shows that suicide ideation can occur in children as young as 5. We need to do better to support the mental health of kids and their parents. The first step is raising awareness and talking about the hard thing so we can tackle this crisis head on. Our report "The Hidden Crisis: Suicidality in Children as Young as 5," authored by Helen Egger MD and Alison Stoner, PhD sheds light on the concerning reality that young children are experience suicidal thoughts. In this report we share our proprietary data on over 1,400 children ages 3 to 14 years old who completed a developmentally-sensitive, two-stage screening for suicide risk and treatment. This report reveals crucial data from Little Otter's research on childhood suicide risks and highlights the power of early, evidence-based treatment. Key take-aways ?? There is an alarming increase in suicidality in young children.? ?? Talking about suicide with your child or family member does not increase the risk.? ?? Very young children experience suicidal thoughts and behaviors at rates similar to teenagers and adults - 15% of children between 3-14 years old screened positive for suicide risk, with the youngest child being only 5 years old.? ?? Early (and accurate) identification is crucial: Suicide screening should begin for all children as young as 8 years old (currently it’s suggested to begin at 12). Just relying on parent report is not enough.? ?? Evidence-based treatment works: By identifying suicide risk early and providing appropriate care we can deliver clinical improvement in 12 sessions. Because these families were able to find help, we prevented future suffering, ER visits or worse. Download the entire report to learn more about our screening process and our recommendations on how to address the crisis. https://lnkd.in/eShz_ayF #worldsuicidepreventionday #childmentalhealth #parentmentalhealth #whitepaper

The presidential election cycle is in full swing, with its near-constant media coverage and campaign messaging flooding our homes. Making an informed decision at the ballot box is important. Beyond that, it's okay to limit your political media exposure if things feel overwhelming or are negatively impacting your mental health. Statement from The White House: “Mental health care is health care. There is no reason that breaking your arm should be treated differently than having a mental health condition. The steps my Administration is taking today will dramatically expand access to mental health care in America.” We're thrilled that this administration values mental health care access like we do, and we're hopeful for the lives that will be bettered by this historic news ?????? https://hubs.la/Q02P7VXG0 #BehavioralHealth #MentalHealth #MentalHealthParity
