Rodger "RA" Phillips was chosen as the most recent recipient of the "A Cut Above" award!? ? This award recognizes our employees for exemplary performance in one, or all of the categories of Safety, Customer Relations, Community Service, and Leadership. ? RA started with Lucas Tree experts in October of 2015 in NC. He has since become one of our lead Arborists and a Training Specialist in the Mid-Atlantic. RA has exemplified leadership characteristics both inside and outside of work. He is well established throughout his community through the different outreach programs he is involved with for the youth. He has helped plant flowers and put down mulch for the city of Washington on numerous occasions, volunteering as a little league/T-ball coach for over 25 years and helping lead (CTO) Cross Trails outfitters for kids between 6 to 10 years old for the last 10 years. Rodger Phillips is also the deacon of his church and has recently taken over as the director of the fall soccer program with them. Nova Scotia success stories come in many shapes and sizes. And this is one I really love - say hello to Volta alumni company, Site 20/20! This fun little system is their baby. It’s called the Guardian SmartFlagger - an Automated Flagger Assistance Device (AFAD) and it makes work zones safer and helps traffic control companies operate more efficiently. I was so excited to see the Guardian pop up on my road here in rural Lunenburg County while Lucas Tree Expert Co, Inc cleaned up around our power lines. This was my first chance to actually see and experience the product after hearing about it for years. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a Nova Scotian company’s product doing what it does best. And the Guardian has kept traffic moving so well and is keeping the Lucas staff safe - which is the most important thing. This might not be what comes to mind when you think of Nova Scotia innovation. But it’s a good reminder to expect the unexpected when it comes to our impressive entrepreneurial community! And if you have contacts at traffic control companies around the world that aren’t using the Guardian SmartFlagger, let’s get them connected to this unique Nova Scotian company. I would like to thank Central Maine Power and the Travis Mills Foundation for allowing Lucas Tree Experts to participate in the 3rd Annual Golf Event at Sunday River Golf Club yesterday.
