Earlier this week, the Board of Lucas County Commissioners proclaimed January 2025 as Stalking Awareness Month in Lucas County. Did you know 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men in the United States experience stalking in their lifetimes? It's up to all of us to better recognize, respond, and report stalking to prevent this dangerous and traumatic crime. Thank you, Rachael Gardner and YWCA of Northwest Ohio for the dedicated day-to-day work to help prevent stalking, and for all the resources you provide to victims and survivors.

The Board of Lucas County Commissioners voted Tuesday to join the Ohio Large Urban Counties Alliance, which will have representatives from Ohio's six biggest counties -- Cuyahoga, Franklin, Hamilton, Lucas, Montgomery, and Summit. Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken, who spearheaded the coalition, has been named chairperson of the alliance. This collaborative group will be an avenue for Ohio's largest counties to advocate for collective priorities, share best practices, and elevate Ohio's voice on the regional and national stage on issues such as workforce, housing, education, economic development, public safety, and the environment.

The L.E.A.D Program (Leaders Emerging And Developing) began in 2002 with the intention of identifying and developing informal leaders from the "middle of the pack" within County departments. The class of 2024 is the 17th class to complete the program bringing the total number of graduates to 280 individuals representing more than 30 different County agencies, boards, and departments. Congratulations, graduates! We look forward to your continued development and leadership of Lucas County!
