Two attorneys from the Juvenile Division in the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office recently spoke with the Northwest Ohio School Social Work Consortium at Penta Career Center about truancy and the importance of collaboration. The consortium emphasized that truancy remains a significant challenge for schools and families, requiring a team approach to support students while meeting legal requirements. Attorneys provided insight into the legal process, available resources, and ways to strengthen partnerships between schools, social workers and the prosecutor’s office. They also discussed the barriers some children face when trying to attend school and how collaboration can help address those challenges. Navigating the criminal justice system overwhelms many crime victims. The Toledo-Lucas County Victim/Witness Assistance Program helps guide them through the process. Advocates stand by victims every step of the way—ensuring they know their rights, connecting them with resources, sitting through trials, and even arranging transportation to court. For sisters Jan Archambeau and Carole Ritenour, who lost their sister to violence, this program made all the difference. "They take you by the hand and guide you through... because you have no idea, and you're in a pretty emotional state," Archambeau said. The work doesn’t end when a case concludes. "Just because there's a resolution for the case, it never ends our connection. We're here for you," said Director Vera Sanders. The Lucas County Prosecutor's Office participated in Bowling Green State University's Criminal Justice Career Fair. An investigator, a data analyst, a criminal attorney and an appellate attorney represented the LCPO. They highlighted the benefits of public service and explained internship opportunities for undergraduates.
