Thanks to the municipalities in Lucas County that have issued proclamations recognizing March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Among them, City Of Sylvania Mayor (and former Lucas DD Board Member) Mark Frye, with Assistant Superintendent Amy Priest (in green on St. Patrick's Day); Swanton Mayor Neil Toeppe, with Superintendent Michele Myerholtz; and Oregon Mayor Michael Seferian, with Community Outreach & Communications Manager Nabil Shaheen.

Thanks to AGS' Julia Hage for helping us with our #DevelopmentalDisabilitiesAwarenessMonth programs. Board staff and community partners are reading to students throughout the month of March. This troop of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio earned their disability awareness badges after thoughtful conversations and a reading of "Everyone Belongs."
It was an honor to be a part of this read-athon for Disability Awareness Month. Inclusion and breaking down biases is such an important conversation to be having. Girl Scout troop 1585 were a pleasure and they earned their ability badge!

?? Big news for accessibility at Imagination Station! ?? Thanks to a generous grant from the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, we’ve added an adult changing table to our lower-level family restroom. This addition helps ensure that every guest, regardless of their needs, has a safe, clean, and dignified space while exploring the science center. Inclusion and accessibility matter, and we’re grateful to be taking this step toward making our space more welcoming for all. Thank you to everyone who advocates for accessibility and helps create a more inclusive community! ??? #InclusionMatters #AccessibilityForAll

"She wanted to come and see our game. She unfortunately didn't make it to see it. So, wearing these shirts, we get to bring her to our games and we get to win it for her." Thomas Laube, Special Olympics Ohio-Lucas County basketball player. Thanks to WTVG-TV and Alexandria Manthey for telling this touching story, and good luck to our Lightning, competing this weekend at the Special Olympics Ohio state championships on the campus of The Ohio State University! #jessicastrong #relationshipsoverrewards https://lnkd.in/g8KheUNw

Statement from Lucas DD Superintendent Michele Myerholtz: In times of tragedy, like the unimaginable loss witnessed earlier this week in Washington, DC, we should uplift one another rather than cast blame based on assumptions and misconceptions. Unfortunately, there are still narratives that question the abilities of individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, or physical challenges. These individuals, like everyone else, bring talent, skill, and dedication to their work. They are valuable members of our workforce and society. People with developmental disabilities contribute meaningfully in countless ways, demonstrating resilience, innovation, and commitment. With the right opportunities and support, they thrive in roles across industries—bringing unique perspectives and strengths that enhance workplaces and communities. To assume otherwise is not only misguided but denies our society the full potential of these individuals. To those living with disabilities, visible or unseen: You matter. Your contributions are real, and your presence enriches the world. Stay strong, stay positive, and keep proving what we already know—you are capable, worthy, and essential. There are millions of us that see your value and stand with you. Let us continue working toward a society that recognizes and supports the full participation of all individuals, ensuring that ability—not outdated biases—defines a person’s potential.
