  • Congratulations to 2024 WIN Graduate, Talus Bio! ?? Co-founded in 2020 by Dr. Lindsay Pino and Dr. Alex Federation, Talus Bio is transforming drug discovery by tackling some of the most challenging disease targets - transcription factors implicated in cancer and other conditions. As a scientist-turned-entrepreneur, Dr. Pino has been instrumental in advancing Talus' groundbreaking platform, MARMOT, which helps researchers understand how potential treatments interact with the proteins that control gene activity. This innovative approach opens the door to new therapies for diseases once considered untreatable. During their time in the WIN program, Talus secured both grant and dilutive funding, culminating in an impressive $11.2M raised in August 2024. With this achievement, Talus joins a distinguished group of 48 WIN Mentoring Program graduates who have collectively raised over $3.2B since 2014. These entrepreneurs are shaping the future of life sciences in Washington state and beyond. A special thank you to their incredible mentors, who loved working with the Talus team and supporting their journey. Congratulations, Talus! ?? Mid-quarter means looking at the portfolio and I was struck by a consistent and meaningful trend...the hidden areas inside otherwise large industries are where we are seeing the most impact. The most transformative opportunities in business aren’t always where everyone is looking. They exist in the overlooked, underserved, and underdeveloped corners of major industries—waiting for those willing to see beyond the obvious. Take animal health—projected to be $150 billion industry by 2032 and growing fast. The market is rapidly shifting as pet owners demand higher quality care, preventive medicine, and specific solutions made just for their animals (not all animals). Yet, access to veterinary care remains a challenge in many regions, and specialty services—such as feline-specific medicine or advanced diagnostics—are still untapped in many markets. These two are important to us. Another hidden area? Livestock health. As demand for sustainable and ethical food production grows, advanced veterinary solutions, precision animal farming, and genetic technologies for disease prevention are poised to transform the industry. The intersection of food security, sustainability, and animal health presents enormous white space for innovation, and we have a few winners picked. Or look at human health—where an aging population, rising chronic conditions, and the demand for personalized, accessible care are creating seismic shifts. Telemedicine and AI-driven diagnostics are just scratching the surface. The real opportunity lies in making quality care scalable and accessible to fast-growing demographics—from senior populations to rural communities. And let’s not forget women’s health. Historically underfunded and underdeveloped, this space is now seeing a surge in demand for better reproductive care, menopause treatments, and solutions tailored specifically for women’s unique health needs. Investors and innovators taking this seriously now will be at the forefront of an industry ready to explode. And don't even get me started on the male contraceptive biotechs poised to change everything. For investors, innovators, and business leaders, the opportunity isn’t in chasing what’s already mainstream—it’s in identifying the cracks in the system where demand is outpacing supply. The hidden challenges in these industries aren’t obstacles; they are opportunities for the bold. #AnimalHealth #HumanHealth #Innovation #BusinessStrategy #LivestockHealth #WomensHealth #Healthcare #GrowthOpportunities Kristin Wuhrman Craig S.
