The Office of International Students invites you all to this year’s International Education Week! Date: 18th – 22nd November, 2024. Throughout the Week: ?? There will be daily activities all week long as well, and you do not want to miss out! Monday: Focus Continent - AFRICA / MENA ?? Port’s Special: Jollof Rice ?? LSUS - SUPPORTING LOUISIANA'S ENERGY INDUSTRY Meet LSUS' Sarah Okpe: First to Build an Operator Interface for BENTELER Steel/Tube When BENTELER Steel/Tube Manufacturing Corporation technicians begin work in the international company's new $21 million threading facility at the Port of Caddo-Bossier later this year, they'll use an interface designed by an LSU Shreveport graduate student. Sarah Okpe, a computer systems technology student at LSUS, spent her BENTELER internship building the human-machine interface, which allows operators to produce seamless steel tubes for clients in the energy industry. "This application is a client interface in which the operators can communicate with the machines, the database, and services," Okpe said. "The idea is that operators can stand in the pulpit with this interface and know if the machines are working if the threading lines are moving, and if the products are correctly threaded from start to finish." Pipes like the ones BENTELER make crisscross Louisiana, Texas, and the Gulf South, supplying much of the United States' energy. Meet Sarah Okpe and learn more about how LSUS is leveraging computer science to support Louisiana's energy industry. Michael Fritz, BENTELER Steel/Tube process and system optimization manager, stated, "The LSUS students are working on solutions we need, and they are supporting our workforce. It's a win-win."

LSUS India Studies preparing for India Night 2024!

The LSUS Institute for Nonprofit Administration and Research to co-host the statewide 2024 Conference for Louisiana’s Nonprofits in Baton Rouge on Sept. 16-17. Through speakers and workshops, the conference will address the most pressing issues facing Louisiana nonprofits. INAR is a statewide resource for nonprofits and a key research player in improving nonprofit efficiency. https://lnkd.in/eh-fvwcd

The LSUS Master’s of Public Health?program will be involved in a Health Fair at LSU Health Shreveport?on Sept. 19 (3-7 p.m.). The free event will offer various health screenings and metrics, including body mass index, screenings for blood pressure screening, sleep apnea, and hearing, among others. The event is led by LSU Health Shreveport’s School of Allied Health Professions (1450 Claiborne Ave.), which conducts the public health program in partnership with LSUS. Don't miss out on this event!
