Providing technology education to the legal aid community.

关于我们

Legal Services National Technology Assistance Project (LSNTAP) is part of the Michigan Advocacy Program, a legal aid organization that provides access to the justice system for those who need it the most through direct legal help and statewide advocacy. LSNTAP helps nonprofit legal aid organizations improve client services through effective and innovative use of technology. To do this, we provide technology training, maintain information, create online tools, and host community forums. LSNTAP is funded by a technology innovation grant from the Legal Services Corporation.

J.D. Candidate at Michigan State University College of Law

With graduation from Michigan State University College of Law looming, I am actively seeking my first attorney position. I have a strong interest in public interest law but I am open to all practice areas where I can make an impact. I would love a position that would allow me to use my background in legal research while providing technology-driven legal services. My skills in legal research, database management, and policy analysis, combined with a philosophy background from the University of Michigan, give me a unique perspective in problem-solving and advocacy. Most recently, I have used these skills as a Law Clerk for the Legal Services National Technology Assistance Project, where I developed and managed legal databases and enhanced access to legal resources. I am preparing to take the Michigan Bar Exam in July. Although the journey through law school has been challenging, it has strengthened my passion for using the law to serve communities in need. I would love to connect with anyone who might have insights or opportunities in the legal field. If you or someone in your network is looking for a dedicated and driven (future) attorney for your team, please reach out! #LawSchool #Graduation #BarExam #JobSearch #PublicInterestLaw #LegalTech #AttorneyJobs #MichiganLaw Shellie Reid

  • FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New AI Guide Empowers Legal Aid Organizations to Navigate Emerging Technology Ypsilanti, MI – February 14, 2025 – Legal aid organizations now have a comprehensive new resource to help them understand and implement artificial intelligence (AI) technology effectively and ethically. The newly released “AI Guide for the Modern Legal Aid Organization” was created by A2J Tech with input from the Legal Services National Technology Assistance Project (LSNTAP). This guide aims to provide legal aid professionals with practical insights on what to consider when adding AI into an organization’s technical toolbox. With the increasing role of AI in legal technology, this guide serves as an essential roadmap for organizations seeking to leverage AI tools responsibly. It covers key topics such as industry guidance, use cases, and security considerations. “Legal aid organizations are under constant pressure to do more with limited resources, and AI has the potential to be a game-changer in improving efficiency and client services,” said Shellie Reid, Manager, at LSNTAP. “We were honored to contribute to this guide to ensure that AI is adopted in a way that is both innovative and equitable.” The AI Guide for Legal Aid Organizations provides case studies, best practices, and a framework for evaluating AI tools. It also includes recommendations for mitigating risks and ensuring that technology deployment prioritizes client-centered legal services. “AI is rapidly transforming the legal landscape, and legal aid programs need guidance tailored to their unique needs,” said Mauricio Duarte, COO, A2J Tech. “By working closely with LSNTAP staff, we have created a resource that helps legal aid organizations navigate this evolving space with confidence.” The guide is now available for free download at LSNTAP.org (https://bit.ly/4hW0H8Y). For more information, or to schedule an interview with the authors, please contact Fabiola Cruz Jorge, [email protected] (email), 704-241-4870 (phone).

  • For this episode of Conversations with LSNTAP, I spoke with Marabi Madrigal and Mallory Curran about LIFT, which stands for LegalServer is Fun Together. (LegalServer is a legal case management system used by many civil legal services organizations, law school clinics, court-based self-help programs, and public defender agencies.). LIFT is a volunteer-driven program that provides technology skill-building opportunities to people of color within organizations using LegalServer. By pairing more experienced legal server administrators with less experienced administrators for one-on-one coaching and hosting remote group training, LIFT also is building and elevating a community of practice for LegalServer administrators across the country. The episode is available on our podcast channel on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/eE2vvyPR For more information about LIFT, please check out their LinkedIn page and attend their upcoming community call: LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/eGCPmkvh Registration link to a community call about LIFT on Tuesday, February 25th: https://bit.ly/LIFT-RSVP25
